Smoothing Linen Wrap

Cuemakers,

I was wondering if you can recommend a way to smooth a single pressed linen wrap without screwing it up. The person this info is for doesn't have ready access to a cuemaker, so it would need to be a home cure.

Hi Terry; this is a little like asking if there is a way to put on a new convertible top for your '66 Mustang. Ya, it can be done, but not without more than a little knowledge & the use of the right kind of equipment. Really this is something that is best left to a repairman. SORRY...JER

Well, Thanks anyway,I figured it would be a lot harder than it sounded.
As I thought about ways to do it I figured the wrap would loosen up.

The only thing I'd recommend someone without a lathe and the proper tools and experience try in this situation is a glass rod or even a thick shot glass. Rub it vigorously up and down the wrap, rotating the cue
as you go. You can also use it to burnish nicks out of a shaft, in a pinch.

just more hot air!

Hey Thanks Sherm,

Hadn't considered anything small and smooth like a Shot glass. That could definately work as an experiment for the person who this is for. His GF owns a bar.:D

i put spray starch on mine and rubbed it in and that seemed to kind of put a coating on it and smoothed it out some. I dunno how much smoothing you need but you might wanna try it

One repairman told me to use spray sizing, I don't know if this is the same as starch.

I have also heard that using dry corn meal will help to clean the linen and then rub it with wax paper.

I guess if nothing else works you can always have it replaced. It seems as if you can get it done for around $25.
