Snake Skin Wrap

I'm thinking about having my linen wrap removed from my cue and having snake skin installed - I want a shiny black wrap. I don't live near a cue maker and was considering having the work done at Mueller's Billiard Supply. The charge is $75 (which includes the skin) and I think that's very reasonable. Any input on the quality of the work done at Mueller's? Any input on where else I can have it done? And as an after thought, how do you treat the snake skin wrap to keep it looking good?

If youre talking about genuine snake skin then it would have to be sealed as it would be to fragile to play with alone. If your talking leather that looks like it thats another story. Ryan (Muellers) does nice work from what Ive seen on here. I would also suggest getting a hold of cueman (Chris Hightower) Ive seen a bunch of cues that hes made with genuine snakeskin on them (sealed of course) Hope this helps Contact chris here www.Cuesmith.com he also posts on here as well

you can ask JIm Baxter and he can tell you about Ryan's(Mueller) work.Where does the snake's skin wrap coming from?I know in the Philippines this is so popular but it has to be coated since it is really fragile to play with.

Thanks to all for the input. In one of the responses, it's pointed out that it's not real snake skin, it's embossed leather. I've been reassured that Mueller's (Ratcue) does excellent work and that's what I was really worried about.

Talked with Ryan at the Super Billiards Expo this past March. Saw a bunch of the cues he made and was selling at the booth. Have talked with him via AZB and online several times. His work is exceptional and the prices he charges are more than fair. A number of people who saw his cues at the Expo were saying he does not charge enough, especially for the high level of quaility in them. Don't think you will regret having him do any work for you.

You should check into buying a piece of Karung snake for a wrap. I have found this species to be the best snake skin to use for that purpose. It is relatively inexpensive and available in multiple colors, although you might run into a thickness problem with a cue that has been cut for a different type wrap.
