sneaky build

A friend came up with a no name one piece house cue that has been in a closet for 18 years. It is dead straight and has a very nice taper on the shaft. The wood is that older maple that you can't find any more. The butt looks like dark cocobolo.

I am making it a 2 piece cue. I noticed a line where the 2 pieces were joined and I cut it there giving me a 29 inch shaft and butt.

The pieces were joined with a 5/16 brass threaded pin. I drilled it out and put in a pin in the butt and a phenolic insert in the shaft. It seems good to go.

My question it: is the brass pin a normal thing. I did not expect that.

I have not seen what you are describing in older Full Splice house cues. The brass screw is pretty common in older house cues that do not have prongs. And it is really common in import house cues with prongs from the last 25 years. Does it have the full splice prongs? If so I would guess it is less than 25 years old.

Yes It is a full splice with 4 prongs. You can see that it was constructed from 2 pieces but was never a 2 piece cue. It is very nice maple but may still be an import. It also has a thin taper on the shaft.

I was told it was 18 years old.

This is a very nice cue but has no name on it and no weight stamp.
