I bought a Scruggs sneaky for $125 several years ago to use as a break cue (I was playing with a Schon at the time), and I liked it so much I sold the Schon. It was a true sneaky with a wood/wood joint and my only concern is that if you break with them, like I did, you may eventually have problems. The hit of my cue just got soft after a few years. I thought maybe it was a loose ferrule, so I had it replaced... and replaced again... no dice. I eventually wrote it off as a joint issue and retired the cue. I held on to it in hopes that somebody can tell me what's wrong with it and how to fix it.
I now play with a semi-sneaky Judd, and it hits great. It's still just a bar cue butt, but Judd, who seemed like a hell of a nice guy btw, put a fiber joint in this one for me as well as a couple of balabushka rings. It was a little over $300, but worth every penny. It's not the kind of cue you'd try to sneak up on people with, but I always said that if someone is close enough to you to be playing you, then they're probably going to notice the joint in your sneaky anyway. If not that, then they'll at least notice that your cue doesn't have a 15mm tip (that's also 15mm thick) glued onto a gnarly 12 3/4mm ferrule like all of the other house cues do, lol.
