Sneaky Pete

Another possibility is a Huebler Sneaky. They play pretty good and I could probably pick one up for you around here and bring it to Brussels with me. I believe that they run in the neighborhood of $150 or so, definitely less than $200. Let me know if you're interested.

Most Huebler sneakies I've tried hit better than the Dufferin sneakies I've tried, fwiw.

Well, you know what..you just answered my question before it was asked ;) so i'll see how this thing goes and, of course, if it goes that my sneaky is coming from states then we'll se if it suits in your bags.

Thx already in advance, that was and is a nice offer.

OK, as a foreigner...do i read you guys correct that when we talk about cheaper SPs, i say around 100$, then it's either Dufferin or Schmelke, and those seems to be in stock in the same place.

What about then if we go on a bit more expensive, like 150$ to 200$?

And yes, of course a custom made is another story, but it can be that i'll go with that a bit later when both my funds and skills are more solid :p

I own a couple of SP's, one a Jacoby that I got as part of a trade several years back. I keep that in the trunk as my "emergency cue", it plays fine and beats most house cues anyway (tip and taper). I also own a Madison Bob SP that was made especially for me. It was part of a 7 cue order that a local guy made a couple of years ago. I had mine made with purpleheart and he threw in some pretty fancy rings above and below the phenolic joint and buttcap. I paid $260 for it and I think it was a great deal. It hits great. Not sure what you would pay for a single cue order today. It's a big brass pin with wood to wood joint. I played with it for almost 2 years but now I use it as my break cue now that I'm back to playing with the southwest.

So here's the thread to really show your talents. I can easily think (yeah, really) that there must be a lot of individuals who has experiences playing SP ques. What i'm after is a hopefully good and even a bit detailed discussion between customs and factory ques.

And why to give that problem to you? Simply because i'm about to buy a new que and that, of course, will be SP. Only problem is that my funds are limited so for me it will be about max. 300$ but there must be some others who like to find some more facts too.

Simply said: help me out.
I would love to build you a SP for $300.
My cues hit stiff , 3/8 10 pin , I only build about 15 cues a year because I'm on Tour so much.
My cue company is " Putnam Custom Cues " built by myself ( Shawn Putnam )
Private message me if you are interested.
Since I am a young cuemaker , you get more cue for your buck until my name as a cuemaker gets established.
Two of the cuemakers that are teaching me are Josey Custom Cues and Woodworth Cues if that eases your mind a little.
you can find my phone number in the forum " Ask The Pros " under my name.
Thanks ,
Shawn Putnam

You can't go wrong with a "Little Al Romero" sneaky. Price is about $250.00

First off, I love sneaky’s. But, to me they aren’t sneaky if they have any collar, joint, or butt piece. A “true” sneaky” should be wood-to-wood. The Meucci and Scruggs are the standard, by which all SP’s are judged. The Huebler’s (also w-2-w), have some of the nicest figured butt wood of any SP. If I was getting another, I’d scavenge the some old pool halls and find a decent purpleheart butt and have a local maker do a shaft for it. ;)

he says the purchase of a sp id due to cost restrictions..
Spend the money on a Frey. Right around your budget!!

It has become one of my main playing cues right behind my Tucker and my Cog. And the Frey is my main cue in barbox leagues

Bob Frey

I purchased a SP from JP Nusbaum. 325.00 plus shipping, It hits great for the money and I would recommend them to anyone wanting a great hit for little money.

I used to own a beautiful custom sneaky pete by paul finelli. Made from a true house cue it had two shafts. one finelli shooting shaft with a moori medium and also the original shaft with some colar, work a nice ferrul and a hard buffalo ti[p for breaking. Best hitting cue ever. It got stolen however. I am still pissed 2 years later.

I am sure most of the good cuemakers can whip something along these lines up. Westerncue has a bunch of AC sneaky's right now.

The Frey SP I bought new last month does not have piloted inserts. It is a 3/8 x 10 wood to wood joint (with collars).

I like it well. It hits nice, and I like the figured Cocobolo.

You're right, they are a bit over $300 (but not too much).

I have one with piloted inserts. The ones on Cues N Things aren't piloted.

I still have a few not so sneeky, sneeky petes. They run $250 - $275. I'm working on another batch that should be done in 3-4 weeks. PM if interested.
They hit great, 3/8 - 10 wood to wood with joint collars, 59 inches.

SP's

Pete - Lots of great suggested SP's on here. The sheer numbers of well made, solid SP's to choose from is dizzying. The hit and feel of a cue is a very personal preference thing.

Where you located? Do you have a local dealer that allows you to TRY Before YOU BUY? Any buddies that would allow you to try their cues? You have a joint preference? At what level do you play? If at all possible try before you choose. Good Luck with your new sneaky pete Pete.:)

I didnt notice anyone metion the predator sneaky pete as I was considering ordering one of those within the next week, but i dont know now, I had originally planned to get a 314 for my cue for $200, then i just decieded to get a sneaky pete for $275, but im thinking now of getting one of those frey's any suggestions?

One thing for SURE in all of this, and I think a lot of people agree with me, you can't go wrong with a Frey sneaky pete.

The Huebler Sneaky Pete has been (and still is) the best production Sneaky Pete I've ever had the pleasure of trying.

Fred

I am playing withe the spju right now. Stainless joint. I love it. I was gogin to get the spwu, but after playign with the spju i couldn't not get it.

I think adding a 314 to your existing cue should be considered as a valuable option. also you can get them cheaper than 200 if you shop a bit. Nielsens billiards has a special right now for GREAT deals.

I am a little embarasssed to admit it, but I have a Quest SP backup cue that I bought for <$20 because the points are not straight. It has a wood to wood joint with stainess pin and brass insert in the shaft.

I put a Moori tip on it and it plays just as well as my regular playing cue, which also has wood to wood joint.

I prefer the feel of w2w over any SS or pheniolic joints that I have hit. Have never hit an ivory jointed cue so can't comment.
