I am in the market for a new sneaky pete and I wanted to get some opinions. First off, if you were to chose between the following ones which would you get and do you have one for sale?

Andy Gilbert J/b

Predator SP

Bob Frey SP

I guess I'd choose the Frey out of these three but I would likely pass on all of them and opt for something else completely.

Steve Klein

I have a Steve Klein sneaky pete (bocote) and not only is the wood beautiful it is the best playing cue I've ever had. I got mine off of sneakypete.com's ebay store for far less than the MSRP & alot less than any of the cues you have listed.

The Gilbert J/B is not a "sneaky pete" but has that same general look. Andy makes his own prongs for them. If you have a Gilbert sneaky pete, then you have a rare cue....he's not done many.

Can't go wrong with one of his J/Bs....they play as good as just about anything out there.

granted the predator sp is not a custom cue.. but you really cant go wrong for the price...

i recently got a gilbert jump break in a trade with a forum member. and to tell you the truth.. i couldnt be happier with it.. all though, i plan on giving it to my relative, but it breaks the balls really solid and fels great.. and if it had a less hard tip like a moori on it, i bet it would play even better then it breaks...

also.. the frey.. i have never heard anything bad about his cues.. he deffinatly has a solid track record and i am sure they are great cues to own.. and probably only go up in value..

good luck with what you decide...

BTW.. Bamacues has a nice Phillipi sp for sale.. at a really nice price.. you pay want to check that out... i heard great things about dealing with him also...

here is the link to his thread...
good luck in your decision..

anything with Gilbert on it is worth the buy. I would go with the gilbert. You can never go wrong with the playability of his cues.

since frey worked with scruggs all those years and its my understanding he made alot of scruggs sneakys.........and since scruggs sneakies are almost legendary in hit, id have to go with a frey.

Sp

I own a Gilbert J/B and a Predator SP. Never tried a Frey but do have an old Scruggs SP. I guess if your looking for a playing cue any will do just fine, but I ALWAYS use my Gilbert, great J/B and plays extremely solid. Good Luck Brother, what a tough chioce, Buy all three!!!:D

Like Ranger said, you won't be doing wrong with any of the three. The Predator is a very good high end production cue. I play with a very early model which Joe Callaluca customized for me. I have pwned and played with a Gilbert J/B, and they are quality cues, solidly made. Bob Frey SPs are truly the same in play, etc as the old Scruggs SPs which are becoming very hard to find. If you are looking for an economical entry, take the Predator. If you want it to maintain value in the future, go for the Gilbert and Frey.

My Joe Callaluca conversion of an old Predator SP...

All three great, but if you use predator shafts, you cant beat the predator for the price. I recently was going to buy a new predator shaft, and when I realized I could get an SP butt to go with it for a few extra bucks, it seemed silly not to. I sold the new butt (cause already have two) with an old shaft I had laying around, and made a few bucks. How can you beat that?

SP's

Howdy,

I think of the 3 choices that Bob's SP would be my choice....altough I have not shot with a Gilbert SP -- but, I do have a Predator in a case somewhere :D

I voted for Bob; I would say he has one of the best playing SP's you might ever find for a very affordable price -- given his year's of experience, etc. -- an excellent choice! :)

If you might find a Timmy Scruggs cue (which Bob might have made) it in my mind be a better choice perhaps from an investment standppoint??? It'a hard to say

Otherwise, Varney here on Az can make you one or, Brent (Stix4sale) or others (maybe me someday) but, I think overall for the $$$ a SP is an excellent choice for a (bar) playing cue!

Best of luck ,

Ken ;)

P.S. -- Steve Klein makes an awesome cue too!!!

I'm using a Varney and like it a lot but certainly could not say anything bad about any of the others mentioned above.

Another vote for Varney!!

Have one and love it. I have never tried the others you mentioned, but you will love a Varney!!!
