So I'm playing a tournament yesterday. Pretty tough pockets, but the tables IMO played pretty good. I haven't played pretty much all summer, except for jumping in two tournaments without hitting any balls before hand. LOL.

Anyway, I shot great (8-ball), even though I went 1-2. Crazy to say, I think I was shooting second best. I happened to get the guy who I think is the best player in that room in the second round. And, the short races in the B-side spelled my doom. Oh well. I felt good, I shot well. The tables didn't beat me.

Anyway, I'm sitting shootin' the $hit, when one of the guys (who plays pretty strong 9-ball but is a little lost in 8-ball), "this tournament would be perfect if it had red circle cue balls."

Another guy (who plays a lot of 14.1 and 1-pocket, but not 8-ball) pipes in and says, "I've never been into a good poolroom that didn't have Centennials or Super Pros." Both of these guys were spouting after they lost. They both showed very little 8-ball knowledge.

WTF??? They have about 20 solid 9' Connellys (maybe Chiricahuas) in very good condition, well maintained. The pockets are about 4 1/2". For a player, they are exactly what you want. Tight but fair. The tournament area is clearly separated from the bar area. There is adequate spacing for movement and spectators around each table. The balls, however, are all Aramith Premiers. For anyone to actually complain about the place solely on the frickin' ball choice is ludicrous. I think most players on this board would put this place and it's tournament environment high on their list of places to actually play a tournament.

That's it. Vent off.

They are idiots. Players PLAY under all conditions. If the conditions are the same for all players then it's the skill that wins it and not the conditions.

Bravo...

Said like a man who has the only triple-shimmed valley bar box on the planet....

Even if they had the perfect balls, perfect tables and perfect atmosphere they would still find something to complain about. Some people like to shoot the sh$t other just like to talk it.

Sounds like a nice place. I would like it. But it would be a little better with better balls.;-)

Thats the nature of some people. Some people are just born losers and born to make excuses. Laugh it off and get used to it.
