Eight Ball
For awhile eight balls on shifters were almost as big as fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror were once upon a time. I was running a three speed manual transmission with no clutch in my circle track car so it was pretty important to get it right the first time! Either stuck in neutral or more likely scatter a transmission halfway down the track. The eight ball was a little bigger than standard round knobs and easier on my palm when I was slamming gears.
One funny use for a set of balls, met a girl that had played baseball that kept an open box on her night stand. Anyone break into her apartment and come in her bedroom she planned to bombard them with pool balls. I have to think that would be an attention getter though I doubt it would stop anyone really determined unless you scored a hit in the face or on the noggin!
