Snooker Shootout: What do you think?

Although I'm a snooker traditionalist, I must admit, I do like this fast paced format. It's definitely not boring! It might actually attract a new crowd.

I'm just not sure if this translates well to the amateur game. We miss enough as it is....

36 balls - equal to four racks of 9-ball.
Four racks of 9-ball would never interest an audience like those snooker players.

It was interesting to see the lower ranked players.
They slaughtered the top 16.
Rory McLeod, a painfully slow player, produced three shots that will make the highlight reels.

Weekend audience seems much more subdued than the Friday drunks.
Great venue.

For the players, everybody all in one spot at the same time.
Rarely happens.
Apparently like a party until they started to appreciate the possibilities.

I like the one table.
Liked the World Open for that reason - you don't miss anything.

Web feed was a bit of a pain.
Links not starting on time or crapping out.
But I wasn't paying those outrages seat prices.

Ummmmm, it's interesting. Between this and power snooker, I don't like how they are attempting to turn it into a game show.

This was much better than Power Snooker, in my opinion it didn't really change the fundamental game of snooker, by this I mean 15 reds, 6 colours and a 12ft x 6ft table with green baize!

Power snooker is much more of a gimmick, and although many snooker purists won't like it, the shootout was entertaining, surely that is what televised sport should be?

It was a very fun event with players interacting with the crowd, some excellent snooker considering the time contraints of the format and everyone seemingly having a good time.

I think the event will be come a regular fixture in the calendar, it was fun and should be treated as such, we are never going to nor do we want to change ranking event snooker but this was a bit of light relief that worked very well on TV.

I'm also a snooker traditionalist and I welcome this event for the new generation of snooker. The sport has been dying painfully since the robotic precision of Stephen Hendry took over the sport-- no more Jimmy White or Alex Higgins characters-- and I see Shootout and Power Snooker as attempts to defibrillate the game. As long as this alternative style of the game does not seep into a ranking event, it's perfectly OK. However, I see two problems: 1) we're breeding an entire generation of beginners who understand snooker to be some crazy rush hour game, with no patience for safety play; and 2) the few snooker tables available for practice on in North America are now going fill up with new players to the game (which is good), so no more 8-hour practice sessions because there won't be any free tables

It was very entertaining. Once. As a yearly event, I think it would be great. Any more than that would spoil it, I think.

I liked what I was able to see of it. Fast paced and good sportsmanship with a lively audience. I don't see much need to change the shot clock timing as 15 seconds throughout should make it even more interesting.

The results were often surprising and that's a good thing.

I hope it catches on big and spreads to this country in a big way (and here's hoping for any form of snooker to become popular here again!).
