Snooker Table Rails

Could someone tell me if the profile on snooker table rubber is different or is the whole rail shorter. The reason I ask is that the players in my room play a lot of Golf. Now they play on a GC1. They have asked me if I would ever consider putting in a Snooker table for them. I don't know if a snooker table would get enough play to warrent purchasing one and replacing the GC1 with it. I have an extra set of rails for the GC1 and I thought I might be able to rerubber them with snooker rubber and tighten the pockets up accordingly. Has anyone ever tried this?

Thanks
Bill

Won"t work...sorry, not interchangeable;)

Yes, this is easy to do and I have my GC V set up this way with 3 inch pockets. Just have to add on snooker bends. Snooker balls are also made at 2.25 so your players can enjoy tight *ss pockets using the same stroke as they do with normal size balls. You can use 2.125 snooker balls with little difference also. Since your not banking much in snooker its sort of a moot point. If you do bank with smaller balls you need to adjust as they will play a bit on the short side but no big deal to a player.

American snooker cushions are dif than English cushions and for what you want to do I think you will have some happy players if you offer them them something dif.

Yeah, i agree. We just did a set of gold crowns also. Brunswick would use their normal k55 cushion with snooker bends and that is what we used. Even our diehard snooker players love it!! Good Luck!!

Next time I get tires on my car, I'm going to have Les Schwab install 15" tires on my 16" rims, if they can get them on, no one will know the difference anyway, and I can save a few dollars at the same time:rolleyes:

Driving around for diamond in BUSTED ASS TRUCKS, you just might have to!!!;) We actually do billiard to pool conversions also. Just crazy!!!

Snooker is a great game and much harder than pool. When I go play in the poolrooms even pockets that are 4 inches are like buckets after playing on my table. Many people that come to play at my home hate my table and ask me why is it so tight, I tell them that its mine and since I play on it the most I don't care if they have problems potting balls.. For a poolroom today it is both an opportunity for them and the mechanic if he or she can do a good job of it. Sort of like when I use to do bar tables, just bring in the rails already done and bam. Get an extra set of rails and let a poolroom try this, they will like it. Rent them the rails and if it doesn't work they can return them or buy them.

Glad to hear other guys are doing this..

HEY NOW....LOL,I have a new 24ft box truck, only had 63,090 show room miles on it when I picked it up:grin:

GOD Damnit, Forgot all about the new ride!!!! Are you still getting the pull behind trailer? Well gotta go, doing a bumper pool table conversion later!!!!HAHA!!

I did some research today and found out Glen is correct. The casting on the Brunswick snooker table are smaller. You can rerubber the rails and buy the correct contoured end caps but you will still have a 1 7/16 height. The rails rhemselves are 1 3/4 and the snooker rails are 1 1/2. So basically if you go through all the work, all you are going to do is amke yourself a 3 inch pocket. I guess I'll just try and find a snooker table. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Well do a little more research and you will find that brunswick did NOT use a 1.5 rail on their snooker model. They used full profile k55 cushions. As far as the castings being smaller, what does that matter?? When we do rail extensions to tighten up pockets, do we use smaller castings??? NAAAHHHH, dont think so.Good luck!

Your original post was that you had a gold crown and wanted to convert to a snooker. i
assumed american snooker just like brunswick offered with full profile rails. I guess you really want a english version which really should measure 6x12 also. If were getting technical, lets do it right!!!!

If you have a GC 1 table with GC 1 slate on it it has buckets for pockets and adding snooker bends will not make them 3 inches. As with real snooker cushions the ends of the bends need to be contoured. This is why they make and sell snooker bends. Real snooker tables don't use them. So even if you were on the tight side you just sand them down the way its done on a real snooker table. My guess is that you would have 3.5+ inch pockets using the old style slate, which is just right. Castings on a GC snooker can use a new GC IV or V pocket with no problem and thats what I had on 6 x 12 snooker table in my poolroom before I got the next one in there.

Snooker tables are cheap and should be an even swap for a good GC.

this i a pretty neat photo of a original Brunswick snooker rail.
