OK the NE is getting snow today (shocker).
Who still goes to the tournaments?
What is your best/worst "bad weather" tournament memories?

One of the more ridiculous situations came up in the 1976 PPPA World Open Straight Pool Championship in Asbury Park, NJ, which was played during a hurricane, and at which I was in attendance.

Somebody mistakenly opened one of the doors near where the late Larry Lisciotti's match was in progress. All the balls were blown to the same side of the table (a couple of other matches were affected, too). The referee ruled that all the balls had to be replaced to their original position, but nobody could remember the exact details of where the balls were.

Once the balls were replaced from best memory, Larry had a dead ball in the pack! Larry told the story often.

As many will recall, Larry went on to win the event.

Snowy Tournament

on the way to a tournament in Minnesota, we got into a blizzard.

We had attempted to drive around it's path, and it still caught us.:o Roads were ice covered for about an hour, then just LOTS of snow.

So too far to turn back, late for the tournament, I drove 60 or 70 through several inches of snow on the road to arrive barely in time for the match.

The tournament room was in a 'dome' and the wind was so strong, there were some concerns about the dome holding up.

Worst position of winter danger I ever put myself in, just trying to get to a stupid pool tournament. :o Sheesh. It was a fun time, once we got there.

I still sing the praises of that car. Handled like a dream, despite the conditions. Never lost it's footing once.

A Tri-state tour 9-ball event took place in NYC in November, 2003 during a blizzzard. I was lucky enough to be one of the last six, so I had to go back on Sunday. It was still coming down on Sunday morning, and there were no cabs or buses, so I walked it. It didn't go well for me in the tournament that day, as I ended up 5/6. Actually, it turned out to be the last nine-ball competition I competed in, and I hope to return to competition one of these days.
