SNUG SW joint question

I know this is wrong forum but value opinion of those here.

I just got my first SW, it's older, but 3 orig. shafts and 2 SW mated predator shafts fit extremely tight, the last 2-3 turns are painful to my hand, it comes undone OK, but just hard to turn when assembling. It's better than being to loose or wobbly - but....Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to "loosen" or should I send to Laurie?

Thanks! Happy 4th
Bill

Are they brand new ?? Did Laurie fit them?
No they shouldn't be "That" tight !! Snug but not white knuckle tight !!

3 orig shafts came with cue in 93, 2 pred shafts fitted by Laurie but for another SW cue. I'm sending back to her to change rings and check tightness, curious if I should send 3 orig shafts back too to see if they need "loosening" or if that minimal tolerance is normal for SW.

My Cochran radial pin cue is like that. It is very tight. I asked Mike about it. He said just take a bar of soap and wipe it on your threads. That should slick it up. And the the shaft will be easier to put on! Rember just a film is all that is needed.
Also one of my friends has a very old SouthWest cue and the shaft he has never used is like yours. It is so hard to put on that you would swear the pin will bust loose. I told him about the soap but he hasn't tried it yet.
Good luck
Nick :)

this is the way. however dont rub soap on the threads. take a drop of liquid hand soap and put it in the shaft it will lube everything up perfectly:eek:

wax works well

Yes it does. My Olneys with SW style pins are tight as hell. Jeff said to just take a toothpick and put a small dab of car paste wax on the end and apply it to the threads, very thinly. That should lube it up...Tom

Of course I had it laying around....don't you guys surf in Jersey ??

Nahhh....took me all of a few seconds to find it.

Make sure you aren't "cross threading" the shaft. Rotate the shaft backwards, to the left till it falls down on the tread pattern, then tighten it turning to the right

?

Couldn't decide which to try - so I did all - bar soap, wax, liquid soap, and Mr. Zogs. Cleaned up nicely and goes together very easy, but comes loose on every practice stroke before I even hit the ball!!!

J/K - Thanks for the advice (and laughs).
