Leather

Go with leather, pig skin or stacked leather.

I may have missed the ferrule part. Hope they are ivory.

I would recommend leather as well- pigskin type. I always hated it until recently just because of looks alone. After hitting balls with a leather wrap- is def something to consider. I have a rick howard with an alligator print black leather wrap and it turned out great. I have a Kikel with a stack leather wrap that I like a lot as well (thanks Puckdaddy).

I like linen as well- white with black speck would probably give it a nice look.

Doesn't the jacoby site let you build your own cue? you could try out different wraps.

I should be receiving an Ariel Carmeli today. Ebony forearm, snakewood points (6 hi/lo) with Ivory diamonds, plain Ebony butt sleeve. Will post pictures later if anyone is interested.

I mentioned that because I think it would make it too dark. You could use Black with White Specks. That is still very dark but it gives better separation between the forearm and the butt. If you want all black I'd use a textured leather wrap. One last thought is gold rings instead of silver, goes with the honey color. Hey it's your money, I have no problem spending it! ha ha ha

I've never shot with a leather wrap and really prefer the look of linen. I thought maybe the silver rings would help differentiate the wrap from the forearm and butt. I'll take a look at the different wraps he offers and hopefully I'll find something more suitable.

I prefer silver/white gold/platinum over yellow gold. Just from jewellery preferences due to the yellow tone in my skin. (I'm a Twinkie, remember? :p)

I had also thought about using cocobolo instead of the black ebony, but thought the latter would accentuate the white holly and baby pink.

French diamonds have concave sides. It will have veneers as in the sketch.

I'm actually undecided about the wrap. Any suggestions anyone?

I have a short, fat butt in real life, too :)

My design custom made by Judd Fuller (JUDD) has an all black linen wrap and I love the look of it. My current custom from Espiritu should be finished soon I hope will have a smooth black leather wrap. If you don't like leather I would highly recommend the solid black irish linen.

What about solid antique white? I still like the solid black...

I always thought that solid black had a slickness to it, but it may just be appearance. The predators I have seen with the solid black were slick though. I like speckled as it has the old school look.

I agree with the silver/platinum over yellow gold, but you have to admit 24k is a whole different ball game- esp. in the asian culture.

I've got a cue coming from Dave Jacoby. Honey-tinted birds eye maple forearm with five spliced points in (black) ebony, french diamonds in white holly at the bottom of each point with a baby pink Swarovski crystal in the centre; butt will be (black) ebony with matching french diamonds; all black Irish linen wrap; stainless steel joint. I'll post a sketch as I'll be waiting about three months for it.

A beautiful cue for a very beautiful lady. I was sitting next Wendy on Sunday when you left and you gave me a hug. Made my weekend. ;)

I just sent this custom design to James White to build, I should get it in July-Aug next year...

I like that design. Why all black on the wrap? And er one more, what's the diference between a French diamond and say one from Africa? Should have added Veners to the points. BTW, in your sketch you have a short fat butt. :D

Rod
Its not nice to talk about a ladies Butt like that... lmao :D

I have a Ron Haley cue being finished now. Will be here in a week or so. A Dennis Searing by years end, and another Joel Hercek hopefully by summer '06.
Nice list.

From any distance, my tight all-black linen wrap looks like smooth black leather.

I have pigskin. I don't like the feel.
I don't like the feel of lizard, but it sure looks good.

The smooth black leather, I love the feel. Love it love it love it. It isn't for everyone.

Fred, is it true that Inside Pool pays you in cues?

Talk about working "pro bolo" (coco that is).

I only have one leather wrapped cue and it is smooth black (and the only kind of leather the maker will do). And, like Fred says, it feels great. Given that, I still prefer linen.

Oh, and I have an '80's Schon scheduled to arrive this week. THANKS, Jedi V Man! :)

I have always like the feel of linen versus wrapless. Have never shot with a leather wrap, though. Don't really like the look of the textured leather. I agree with you that a tight all black linen wrap!

What about those "spray on" leather pants you have? Do they qualify?? :p

Zylr SP

I am waiting on a Zylr Sneaky Pete that I hope gets finished by November but I am not holding my breath on it.

It's a good thing ...

that I am not working anymore where I had lots of
walking money, cause you guys would have turned
me into a cue collector by now, plus I would probably
have about 10 jumpsticks and 10 cue cases .... lol

and I wouldn't know which ones to use for what tournament ...

I've actually got two Paul Mottey's and an Andy Gilbert on order as of right now.

One of the Mottey's will have ebony points into birdseye with a "Bushka" ring and leather wrap, and the other is a Hoppe style with amboyna burl into birdseye and a lizard wrap. Both will have piloted ivory joints.

The Gilbert is a little more plain with four ebony points into birdseye, a flat faced ivory joint and a leather wrap.

Take care all!
