So confused on break/jump cue tips!

So I was thinking about getting a break/jump cue.

But then I hear how phenolic tips are prone to miscues. Yuck.

Next I read how Samsara and White Diamond and Icebreaker
tips offer better control. BUT...

...they don't jump as well.

So now I'm more confused than ever. :frown:

Specifically, what I want to know is: What would make learning to jump easiest?

1) Phenolic
2) Samsara
3) A jumprope
4) A jolt of electricity
5) All of the above

thnx! ;)

Popping the ball in the air is pretty easy with a phenolic since all you are looking for is impact. For breaking a super hard leather tip will hold up to the force and not be too hard like phenolics can be for breaking.. I had a break cue with a phenolic tip on it and it fired the ball well ,but it sounded like I was hittting the ball with an aluminum bat.. I picked up a Pechauer break and a pechauer jump cue, the tip that comes standard on the break cue isreally good. No problems controlling the ball after impact. The jump cue is awesome as well, just getting angle of attack on the cue ball and hitting firmly will get you jumping balls quickly

If you can swing getting a seperate jump and break cue I prefer having a designated cue for each.. Since the types of tips matter for how they perform, it is hard to find a j/b that performs well for both tasks

I think you are letting your confusion take over logic. If you are buying a Break cue I assume you have a playing cue. At days end you need to put these away in a case. You have 2 butts so I would go with the industry norm, 2 butts 4 shafts. Having 2 shafts per butt would allow on your break cue to have a shaft for a normal tip and one for Phenolic so changing shafts becomes an easy solution.

Samsara

I switched from Phenolic to a Samsara back when the BCA outlawed them.
The Samsara breaks well with better control. I have no problems jumping with it, it works great. I also tried the White Diamond it's ok, but I'm not impressed with it.

Break cue for breaking and jump cue for jumping. Problem Solved.

I agree with Steve, break cue for breaking and jump cue for jumping.

I believe the rules for the leagues allow you to have whatever tip you want on a jump cue
but must have leather on a break cue. That was the last I heard. We all know how fast the rules change though.

The white diamond works well for jumping and breaking but you must cut it in half to get it to jump and break good. If you have a 28 mph break then it is no good as it will not last long as it will not take the abuse.

Hope this helps.

Easiest to jump: g10 and white diamond.
(Talking just to get over the ball ;-) )

Breaker: my fav here us samsara. Maybe you can get 3-8% more speed with same accelaration with other tips but i prefer the control and the sound.

----------
If your skill about jumps are good you re able to jump with each if the named tips.
If we talk about distance from cb to target where you want to jump over let us take 2 balls wide. This distance you can handle easily with almost any tip.

If we then get closer the g10 and white diamonds will have an advantage.

-----------
The problem is anyway most of the time at the end if the cue. Wrong technics and the general(wrong) alignment on jumpshots will cause immediatley misses ;-)

--------

If u have the skills to master the jump your search for the right tip should also be influenced by the current tournament rules.

But before you start to spend much money on a jumper get the knoeledge go master it. Some higher priced jumper are worth the money. So go out. Learn to jump. Anx then start to test around.

I agree with Lomax! I use a sneaky pete with a hard leather tip for breaking because it is easier to control the cue ball and a jump cue with a phenolic tip for jumping because it is easier to jump. The only downfall to this is having to carry a bigger case such as a 3x6 or in my case a 4x8!

I also think the shaft taper on a jump cue should be stiffer than the shaft taper on a break cue.
