So I was playing a guy for a beer. I run the table and im getting ready to shoot the 8 and he says you gota bank the 8. I said you didn't say that when I asked if you wanted to play for a beer . He says that was the last game I played with the guy before you . he says if you make it strait in the bets off. so I make the straight in shot. yes I didn't get my beer but I have the table. I play the next guy, the old man beats me I put my money up . the guy beats the old man . I say same bet what rules do you want to play, bank the 8 or straight . He says I bet a guy once and Im not doing it again this is for fun . I didn't fuss about it I just said ok . Was I a dick for the first game or did I do the right thing.

Reason number 1217 to not play pool in bars.

And, BTW - are you 12? You're in a bar playing a BAR PLAYER for a beer.
Determine what the rules are before you start the game.

You did the right thing

other peoples rules make me sic

I have a family member that insists you must pattern rack
you must place the ball behind the headstring after a scratch
and that if the object ball nicks another ball before going in it doesn't count
slop shot he calls it
in 8 ball

strange after playing by bca rules at the pool hall tournaments

then his sister plays 9 ball with wii rules? I think
they said that s how it was on the wii and they like it adding the value of the ball subtracting points for a miss
ive never heard of this kind of 9 ball, with a point system

im kinda burned out on pocket games and pocket players anyways
atleast the ones ive met

You did right and wrong. First you did right in sinking the ball. I would not drink with a nit. However, you did wrong by not leaving and going to a better place. I coud not syand even being close to creeps like this.

You have to rethink your reasoning for even playing with this guy. You are in a place with people who probably for the most part know nothing about pool. Let them play and don't get involved. You know you can beat them, so what, what is the point. We all have had it happen a zillion times. We are out with friends and all of a sudden there is a pool table and people playing. Your friends always want you to go over there and beat on these people for no apparent reason. Why?

Would you have gone to war over a beer? Is it really that important that you would take this man's life because you were slighted over a beer? He may have had children. He may have had grandchildren, for heaven's sake. What if one of his children, or grandchildren, were in a wheelchair, and on a respirator, having to be spoon fed, and you kill the only means of support this small child has. After a tearful funeral the Division of Family Services takes this child to a foster home where an abusive, alcoholic woman feeds him spoiled rice and beans, making the little boy gravely ill, causing him to go into convulsions. After being rushed to the nearest hospital the attending physician in the Emergency room tells the Foster parents that the little boy has a twenty percent chance of surviving the illness so the two lowlifes walk out and leave. Two days later the little boy comes out of his coma and the ER doctor calls Family Services where he (the little boy) is once again remanded to a foster home. This time, however, his Foster parents are two very kind and gentle people who welcome him with open arms and provide a warm and happy home with healthful food and loving care. Is that how you want this thing to play out? Over one measly beer? Is it? :)

i played a tourny last week and im in a match where the winner goes to final. its a quick tourny race to five. im up 4-0, i break and run to the nine, the guy gets up, waves his hand to the table in dusgust and starts breaking down his cues. I stand up as i was down on the shot and stroke the cue carelesly towards the nine. the guy grabs his cue and starts to shoot. I said you quit bc you did what i stated above, the guy says you missed, makes the nine and reracks. I get real heated, walk away for a smoke as I have 100 plus pounds on him, come back and start playing. he wins the next rack. 4-2. he breaks dry and I win finally on a funny angled bank shot, its call nine. now, was I wrong for not punching him in the chin, or was he wrong for being a little biatch.???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I played a guy for a beer the other week. I won and he was too drunk to buy me one. So I bought him one.

It's a bar. And it's a beer.

Was there anyone running the tournament you could have asked to rule? Either way there was no reason for you to not shoot the 9 unless you asked him "Are you conceding"? You learned a lesson.

Never touch the balls or shoot when your opponent is conceding, get up and go over and shake his hand. When your opponent congratulates you on your win, then the match is over in this case. Besides the obvious like missing or scratching while attempting to take a shot you do not need to, you could accidentally commit a cue ball foul while down on the shot talking or looking at your opponent. Just too many things to go wrong in a situation like this, gotta make sure your opponent is really conceding.

as soon as he makes the first twist on his cue...

The opponent is conceding the second he makes the first twist to break apart his cue. The match is over right then. Anything that happens on the table after that is moot...

Well I did what I set out to do and that was run the table on him . I really didn't care about the beer I already had 2 in the well from a previous player . just thought it was chicken $h1T of the guy and will not play him again unless its a tournament.
