So who Lifts Weights/Bodybuilds??

Yesterday I did my leg workout for the first time in like 3 weeks (sick and workout partner had nasty spider bite). Today I racked up the balls, got into my stance and broke them at about 90% and almost fell to my knees. I came home early because my legs were so sore and it even hurt to sit down.

Most times, after playing for 8 hours, my legs ache pretty bad...but I just take a break...maybe grab a bite to eat, and I can play for another 4 hours or more. The second day is a little rougher. Time flys when you're having fun.:)

I'm surprised you didn't get a wheel chair, and keep playing....where's your love for the game?....just joking.

I usually take it easy on leg work outs. Simply because your legs are working all the time. And they are supporting all of your body weight through out each day. Exercising the legs should be done in moderation. Unless, right before going to sleep at night. Then, you just have to manage to crawl into bed before falling on your face. Munch on a protein bar. It will help your muscles recover very quickly. Immediately after a work out, stretching lunges will help. But, it hurts a little.:D

I just started playing tennis after workouts every night with my buddy. He suggested we go play last night after the leg workout. I love to play any sport no matter what the conditions, so I agreed. I was hoping it would stretch them out a little, but I guess it didn't. I got up this morning and weed eat(ed) and my legs seemed ok. When I got to the pool hall I found out that was not the case. And now as I roll over in bed, everything from the waste down hurts. I'm probably gonna have to roll out of bed tomorrow.

That sucks...But I have found that it may hurt like hell to stretch your legs out when they are in that kind of state, but if you do one real good stretching session, then the pain and soreness will go away much quicker than just waiting for the pain to go away on it's own. Sometimes, jumping in a swimming pool will help your muscles stretch out a little.

The "Power Bar" Protein Plus is a decent protein bar that will help your muscles re-coup.

HOWARDTHEDICK is a Bodybuilder. Just ask him! It is hard to tell, most of the time he is stuffing his face........

Working out is undoubtedly excellent for my game. I work out 4 to 5 times a week and have noticed a dramatic increase in stamina and consistency since I started about 3 years ago. If I miss too many workouts then I become sluggish and have less energy. As long as you are not "overtraining" you should have no problem. Whatever you do, don't give up working out because your game is in a slump. It is better to be healthy and prolong life than run out. JMO

So all my idols in pool (men) happen to have a slight gut and don't seem to be all that "in-shape"... I lift weights 4 days a week, am 240lbs at 6'2" at about 14% bodyfat. Lately I've been thinking that my lifting is having an impact on my pool training, I feel as if it is affecting my muscle memory on my stroke and other factors of the game. Unfortunately I have a body type that if I don't lift I will get fat! but I don't want to mess up my game. What's everyone's take?
I have found out, over the years, that a day of strenous activity will
render me helpless on a pool table. Prior to any type of wagering at
pool, I limit myself to lifting nothing heavier than a shot of Southern
Comfort. This also does wonders for my attitude, because then I don't really give a damn how I play !

here it is

there are many ways to workout.

1st you need to decide what your goals are.

then you need to learn what type of lifting and cardio will get you there.

here are some guidelines.

1-5 reps with heavy weight.this is a strength based workout.
basic lifts like deadlift, squat, rows, bench, and military press.usually one to two excercises per body part.sets and reps are usually 3 sets of 3 reps or 5 set of 5 reps using 80% to 95% of of your one rep max.
i liked this type of lifting because it was quick,i got strong and i didn't get sore.equate this to sprinting.

muscular endurance.this lifting is light usually 50%-60% of 1 rep max.low weight high reps. 3-4 sets of 12-15 reps 1-3 excercise per body part.not alot of strength but more endurance.equate this to long distance running.

then you have your basic bodybuilding program.3-5 sets per exercise,3-5 exercises per body part,10-12 reps per exercise.these workouts can really make you sore because the goal here is to cause microtrauma to the muscle and getting it to make itself bigger and stronger to deal with this type of trauma again.long times in the gym.

cardio.i suggest you look into the tabata protocols.it's effective and short in length.

also to promote muscle growth and repair and to combat doms (delayed onset muscle soreness) drink a high carb, high protein drink, with a one to or two to one ration of carbs to protein.make the carb portion from a maltodextrin based drink and your protein from whey.this is for fast absorption right after working out. your body will use insulin to shuttle the carbs and protein to your damaged muscles, which will soak it up like a sponge.this is one time you want to spike insulin.

if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

i was a competitive fighter for alot of years and had to learn alot about nutrition and fitness.

Protien bars, are you crazy? Have you ever seen a pool player eat anything but Big Mac's, (with fries) Pizza, or for a real burst of energy try a few glazed donuts,
washed down with a coke. Are you trying to corrupt all the young dude's ?????
