Say what?

I heard a little about how that tourney is being run already. Houston Rodriquez and Jason Kirkwood (both from Grand Rapids) had to play each other in the second round. Houston had to go to 8 and Jason to 10. With the score 7-9, Houston wins. They both are unscrewing the cues when the T.D. comes up and tells them the match isn't over yet, Houston now has to go to 9! Jason ends up winning the next game to put Houston in the losers bracket.

How would you like that?? Get your handicap raised after you won the match, and have to continue the match you already won! I'm glad I didn't go!

Please tell me there is more to this story...if that's actually true...I'm glad I couldn't make it either...cause I really wanted to go.

Possibly an honest mistake. Looking at the current entries page I see Kirkwood listed as a 10 and Houston as a 9.

That doesn't mean that they didn't change it after the fact though. I also find it odd that there are names in the money that aren't even listed in the players list.???

True.

I kinda read the player lists as "in progress" and don't think that was a final representation. I can understand names cashed but not listed if that is the case.

soaring eagle info

I don't want to post what took place as I feel its not my place and its dr pool and or houston that determine if they want to discuss it......sorry but I hate fueling a fire or a potential one. I will say as a tournament director myself that hard calls have to be made at times and in the heat of the moment maybe they aren't always perfect but the intent is pure. I know I try to do the right thing but each of us have opinions and ideas of right and wrong.

I was there at the event and I will say that they had tons of walk ins and for anyone in Michigan, you know players pre paying is rare. I would guess that's the reason for not having a full list its probably the list of pre paid players.

The other items I would rather not help to stir so will just leave the discussions on it to Huey and Dr. Pool.

My better half might be right after all. She always tells me how pool players are worse than a knitting circle. They'll just say what ever little piece of info they have accurate or not.

Not trying to defend Dr. Pool, but handicap tourneys are a slippery slope and I'm not really a big fan of them. (Everyone complains about their own being too high and their opponents being too low, lol)

That being said, Dr. Pool does about as good of a job as possible with the handicap situation. I figure he will respond and shed the whole truth to the situation.

clarification Neil

Each event at soaring eagle was double elimination not single. Names weren't all posted online because its rare to get Michigan players to pre register and the rest of the story about Jason and Hueys match is theirs to tell or not........or Dr Pool. I happen to kknow exactly what happened but its nots my business to discuss it. As I said before, tournament directors have to make tough calls all of the time and not everyone will agree and my opinion about the matter doesn't change the decision it only creates more gossip and what the pool world needs is less drama not more especially in Michigan where we have very few great events to play in.

I agree if

If the decision was to be a jerk or cheat someone out of something I would discuss it and you are right we should but I was there too and it was a decision he thought was right given the entire scope of what took place and trust me it was a lot and very few know the whole story. It was a tough call that had to be made that's all I can say but I know it was a call made because Dr Pool thought it was fair and the right thing to do at that moment given all of the details.

The event was a singles 9 ball and singles 8 ball so maybe that's wjat the guys meant but everyone played 2 matches except for 3 people who forfeited because they didn't make their match time.

I know this because Dr Pool asked if I could lend a hand at that event so I did although not helping with the board I was privvy to and aware of what was going on

now thats funny

I don't recall any of our guys leaving early because others were there all weekend and we chatted a ton. It seems like we wouldve heard about a ding dong that left but heck, we know some of the players are goof balls!!! Lol

The Huey Jason deal was a lil sticky and I can't say both players agreed or understood the call by Dr Pool but I can say for certain that Dean likes Huey and Jason and had no ill intent towards anyone.......at least that's how I saw it but I understand a players viewpoint as well. That's why I say he made a tough call...........not because being right was tough but making the decision to do something he felt he had to do was tough especially when so many people were bothered for lack of a better word.

Ahhhhhh the pool world.............as the pool balls roll, so do the players of the game. What a great soapopera we could make!!!

I haven't got to talk to him yet but I think Harvey won. There is a picture on the Soaring Eagle website with him holding the cash.

WAY TO GO HARV!!!

My team plays them tomorrow night at league so if there is no update before then I will let you know on Thursday morning.

This tournament was run great!!! Every big tournament has "sticky

situations". Like being slow played, but you deal with it. The best part

about this tournament was when I looked at the chart it had the time

on it for my next match. good job Doug, dean, Rita
