Social Media, Pool, and Fedor Gorst

The only way folks could learn the latest news in pool used to be reading pool magazines and news letters, usually a week or two, sometimes a month, after an event ends. The fastest way, though, was word of mouth. Then came the internet, Google, and social media platforms like Facebook.

Facebook recently notified me that I was eligible for a "professional mode" on my Facebook page, which labels one as a "Digital Creator." Depending on how many hits or likes or interactions you receive, you get paid money by Facebook. Some Facebook friends said they get about $10 a month, and others said up to $500 a month. I turned it down because I prefer being a free agent, so to speak, and it just wasn't a good fit for me.

Fedor Gorst has a huge following on social media as an "athlete," a label Facebook gives to those with a huge fan base. He posts photos, contests, products for sale, and tournament updates. He has a website and a YouTube channel. This morning, he posted a simple photo with one question on it: "Shopping?" Within one hour, he had 1,300 likes and 41 comments. I cannot imagine how much he gets paid by Facebook each month, but I'll venture to guess it's a nice chunk of change.

Pool has come a long way as far as reaching pool enthusiasts and fans around the world. Fedor Gorst, in my opinion, may be the most well-known player in the world today in 2025, thanks to his social media presence, currently at 309K followers. To put it in perspective, snooker world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has 1.2 million followers, and Fedor's fan base on his Facebook page is climbing each week. He posts daily, sometimes two or three times a day, about his pool journey around the world. Here is his Facebook athlete page: https://www.facebook.com/gorstfedor

He’s young and understands social media. I can tell you at the super billiards expo he was swamped and selling out of everything.. they were just setting up wednesday night during the warm ups and he was already being over run with fans and people buying. Good for him. I saw his interview with joe Rogan and hes a really good dude.
