I do understand, it is for the purpose of taping and you needed just enough audience to provide a background for the show much like the David Letterman show and others do, It is really just for the TV cameras. You can also move around a small audience and control them with direction and reaction ques like they use on most audience shows to create excitement. It's the right way to do it, I would do it the same way, It guarantees you getting what you want. If that is the case though I would not have used an auditorium but a studio set up for such a thing, it makes more sense. Maybe set up your own studio in the future with the perfect conditions for taping pool matches. Boom cameras like Jay Leno uses where you never see the cameras and get a feel you are actually in the audience. Also there is no need to travel since you are going to use such a small audience and it is not really meant to be a public event but a TV show, you could tape every event in the same location.
