Solid vs layered tips

I'm not cheap and don't mind paying to have a decent tip installed or cue(s) worked on. It's the convenience here trying to get a hold of the local cue guy. I bought 10 Elk Master tips to replace the tips on the rack cues at home and ended up putting one on my break cue and one on my Crical ( Chinese cue) . My playing cue has an Ultraskin on it and another will go on when it's time to replace. The long and short of it is the Elk"s are holding up pretty good and I can break and play with both cues. The Tweetens tube of glue i have is over 35 years old and still sticks tips on lol

I have grown to like the Tiger Onyx tip a lot.
Shaping a Le Pro tip can cause the frizzies. The Tiger Onyx must be the other extreme where you can take a sliver off the surface and it remains smooth.

I just got some Ultraskin Fire Mediums and replace my tip yesterday. It's really quite easy if you take your time.

I am a half decent causal player that played off the wall for years until my wife got me a Joss cue a year ago or so. I don't know what tip it came with but I never like the way it hit. I really like the change of to Ultraskin but it is like I like to relearn this cue :)

Used to always come with triangle from Joss. Not sure what they do these days

Where do you buy them?
In bulk? Here: https://www.layeredcuetips.com/index.php
If you just want one or two, Cue Components and Fort Worth Billiards have them. I'm sure others do too, but I've ordered from both of those places. Looks like you can get them off of Amazon too from the Cue Components store.

I've used Ultraskins on several cues in the past and have no complaints. I would put them up against Kamui Clear any day of the week. I usually get them 10 or more at a time and trade my cue guy tips for repair work.

I had my him put a Fire hard tip on my break cue early last year and have absolutely beat the crap out of it. It mushroomed once early on, so I shaped it again. It has kept its shape for almost a year after. I'm pretty impressed because I break hard.

I was talking to a local cue builder the other day and he told me that while he likes Ultraskins, but he likes the SiB tips a little better as they wear slower. They are just a bit more expensive so I will probably order some of those the next go round.

Thanks for reply.

Brother Ron hooked me up with a freebie to try out.

Thanks, Brother Ron.
