Solly's game improvement and my new trophy

Hiya all,

ok this post is about 2 things. My game improvement and my first trophy :D

First of all, ive achieved my goals that i set myself up at the beginning of last summer. I completly dismounted and mounted my stroke/basics. I had been strugling alot, but at the end my stroke was ALOT better. Also thanks to colin, my break is working now.

i was becoming alot better, i can slowroll the ball to the table end have the rock hit my tip at the exact place it started, BUT ocasionally i still missed some easy balls or some hard balls. there was no real patern in the balls i would miss. It would frustrate me, because no patern = hard to find the problem. I wasnt overcutting, or ondercutting, or missing any specific pocket, i wasnt missing any particular shot, so: after watching ALOT of snooker matches with the current WC on eurosport, i changed one thing, that has made the BIGGEST change ever. my initial pauze on the last backswing was pritty short, as im a fast player. its more a slowdown backswing till its almost still, and then i fire the piston. Now after the snooker and seeing a girl who has a almost 5sec pauze, i just tried it too, and elongated my pauze from 0.5sec to 1.5-2sec. and i STILL dont believe the change it has done.

I run twice as much balls / inning in straight pool. I HARDLY ever need more then 1 or 2 innings to clear a rack of 8-9ball, on my break im hitting the 1ball alot more right in the face, everything is going. ive tried it in 3 tournaments, and ive jumped in one week from a B+ to a A+. i just dont get it, how one small change that takes like 10minuts to adapt too, can make such a HUGE difference.

Now at that 1.5sec pauze, i feel a confidence boost so huge, i just KNOW im not going to miss anymore. its not even arguable. as long as i keep my pauze, the ball is going to go IN!. Ive made shots that i normally wouldnt make more then 3/10, that now im shooting in like if it was a simple stopshot.
AMAZING !! i need to post a video soon, to show the improvement.

SECOND THING:

As some know, i started the first brussels poolteam in the beginning of this year, and in our FIRST year (that was suposed to be a test-year) we just WON the Brabants 2006- 2007 state team championship !! Now we just have to beat the topteams of the 3 other states, and we have our ticket to the european championship !!!

here are some pics :D They will look greath next to the new pooltable !!

Well congrats! hard work pays off for sure , would like to see the pics but the links say invalid. Keep it up and good luck in the states you are heading to!

Congrats ... Solly

How's that table coming along? Hard work does pay off eventually.
That is one neat trophy. Good luck next time around.

scott, i just finished to sand of by hand ALL the rails and all the blinds. (took me over 5 days of fulltime sanding already ). Just the tablelegs and the corners to be done. I think it will take 3 more full days of sanding, and then i can start ebonising the feet and the blinds and i can start to bleach to toprails. (gonna give it a try, if its not nice, ill go for the red-black mahogany stain.).

i found the right guy to fitt the table. he has fitted all the tables that are considered to be the best table in the country. If he does the same good job on my table, it will be a killer diamond :D (its Serge das who had done so well on the EC and the WC ). I played him yesterday and had a greath match, and even chances to get a nice lead, but i blew it twice on the 8.

ps scott, the 11y old girl i talked you about is in the last picture i atached... :) thats the magic lady who really inspires me.

Wow, that is so awesome. I am sure you will have more trophies to come, if you keep working on your game the way you do now.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Richard

Well done Solly! Great to hear you're doing so well, now go get into the Nationals!

Solly, your progress has just been simply amazing over the past year. I have been following it avidly and want to commend you on your hard work and diligence. It is certainly paying off and you deserve your success. Now you have to give me the 7!

The trophy is awesome and it looks like all your teammates are pretty proud. The little girl looks like she is going to be another Jasmin, with such an early start. Was it handicapped or does she play straight up against the guys?

Anyway, I can't wait to hear more good news about going to Nationals!

linda, we dont have handicaps. neither in league, neither in national ranking events, neither in opens, i dont think i ever heared of a handicap system being used in any tournament at all. (not even in moneygames) :D

the teams competing are from shortstops/pro till D level players.
for example: Q action A, probably the strongest team has serge das who finished twice in the top5 in the european championship, and 9th in dubay this year in the WC and u have other teams with players who can hardly run 5 balls. Its all together :D

and yes the girl is a future yasmin. she's 11 (or 12?) now, and she has been playing snooker for 5years, and started pool this year. Her sister is only 9y and is also amazing to watch. They can break and run :p dont worry. these girls kick most man's butt. both sisters played the finals of the last national woman ranking. :D its just amazing to see a 11y old and a 9y old play the finals. Worst place they ever had was 3th... She is a HUGE talent for the future, together with other good kids. in fact she only lost in the national 8ball championship vs Wendy jans in the final.

:) u see linda, helping sponsering the youth tournament, helped discovering very good young players. ! its been ALL worth it, and its a joy to play with them. They arent bittered from life yet, they just are happy and do there thing. :)

ps i got a video of her playing some 14-1. its pritty short, and u can only see 1 rack i think, but u can see enough to know how well she plays. Im still beating her, but she is becoming dangerously close to kicking my bottem. ;)

What was the score in the finals of the National Championship between this girl and Wendy Jans?

Richard,
the national website isnt the best updated website there is

i remember she lost the final 48-50 in the 14-1 part,
she lost the final 3-7 in the 9ball part,
and i cant find any score in the 8ball final vs wendy.

But i heared wendy won with a good difference. (2-6? cant remember , and cant find it on the website)

i really need to post a video of her soon, but my home pc is broken. and i cant do it from my work pc (yet).
