You come up on a table, the slates seams have come apart, and you can see the slate screws heads trying back their way up through the cloth, what happened that would cause the slate screws to start pushing their way through the bed cloth?

Weak floor structure

Cotinuous stressing of the frame caused by weak wooden floors and seasonal temperature and humidity changes? Living on a fault line????

Glen,

Funny you should ask this question as your about to come fix my table....this is exactly what mine is doing!!

I know the answer!!

1.) The mechanic who set up the table didn't level the frame first.
2.) During the leveling of the slate, the mechanic loosened and tightened the bolts to acheive a level playing surface.
3.) The mechanic had no clue what he was doing!

Awaiting for your help!

It was done quick and cheap.

1. Thick or to many shims from an unleveled frame.

2. To much sex on a table with loose shims; shims fell out slate dropped to frame screw had to go somewere like through the cloth.

3. Stripped slate screw screw holes.

4. Could be a bumper pool table missing a bumper.

5. since you cant stake a screw from backing out I prefer to fill half the hole\screw with filler so I cant feel it when shooting or screw cant come loose either.

6. Should have bought a coin op no screws to poke through and all the rough housing you can through at it.

7. wrong shims short and thick just barly had them in should have used long thin shims to cover more area between the frame and slate or used flat shims wood or playing cards.

The slate has slipped off of the wedges it was leveled on, the screws have not moved but the slate has dropped some.
Sometimes....when some jackoff's bring in a table to install it, they'll set up the frame of the table on the floor, not level the frame, then set the slates on the frame, and level the slates right where they lay. Sometimes...the slate is touching the frame in only one spot, while the rest of the slate is completely off the frame everywhere else...I've seen this done where the slate is 1 1/4" above the frame of the table at one end, or even one side. Then what happens, is the shims come loose, because they're so stacked up, that they fall out, then the slate, having nothing to support it in place except the rails bolted to them, start to slide down on the slate screws, breaking apart the seams of the slate, because they didn't even use super glue to help hold them in place. As the slate slides down, the head of the screws start to stick out above the level of the surface of the slate, pushing up the bed cloth as they try to stick out.

you might have this problem if the slate screws didn't bite into the frame and the table was moved in one piece

I'm on the way to your house to fix your Diamond table right now, I'm in Medford, OR dropping off Mike Zimmerman's Diamond 9ft table, then heading on to the Sacramento area. I somehow deleted your message with your home number...LOL, so call me, I'll be at your house in the morning, then I'm off to the San Fransisco area.

That was my guess. The condition of the cloth is a good indicator of this.
