Some Eye Popping Auctions

The Palmers and other older colectibles seem to be on the rebound. It looks like the fancier, better conditioned cues are commanding a few more bucks than usual on the auction block.

I've seen this in some other private buys. This one on e-bay looks legit and certainly was eye popping for me. (Please be careful on the comments because the buyer/seller might post here, thanks):

Man Chris, if a non-Szamboti forearm Palmer goes for that much, you are sitting on Fort Knox!

Very nice cue in what appears to be very good condition. If the sale went through, it is shocking to me as well. Doesn't seem to make sense though, comparing it to what has sold over the past year or so. Maybe someone out there knows something we don't.

I don't know... I went through some of the seller's feedback. Austinharrybarry and harryboss1 seem to be linked to the seller in more than just Palmer World...

From the auctions questions/answers:

The butt is about 2lb and the both shafts together are almost 1lb.

That's one heavy duty pool cue!

Fake, fake, fake, and did I mention FAKE.

I don't know the purpose but there is a reason behind it. None of the people bidding the top dollars have anything in their selling/buying background to do with cues, but neither does the seller.

The seller has been an ebay member for two months, most of his feedback is selling scale cars.

Hey Tate, thats an adams made forearm, which does not fit the timeline in the description? What do you think about that?

Just for fun I went to look up a third catalouge palmer model 14 in the 3rd ed. blue book, there isnt any more palmer info in there, than there was is the first edition.wich wasnt much. No surprise I supose. The 3rd ed. was realy a disapointment in my opinion.

Looking through some of their other items for sale, you can see that the cue pictures were taken on their kitchen table like some of their other items. The chairs are the same in the cue pictures as in their other auctions.

So they have the cue in the auction at least.

But the price, and the bidders who bid it to that price, just don't make sense.

Yep. The description is totally wrong. It's a Model 14 with an Adam front. That would date the cue to the 1975 - 1980 tme period.

Looks like a nice cue...for $1200.
