Back from vacation in Hawaii and working on some good stuff.

Rambow

First thing is I bought a Rambow to go with the Model C Palmer, which is a Rambow Tribute cue. This particular Rambow acquired from Scott B. has the ivory buttcap. It's in beautiful original shape with not too much use. Here it is, side by side with the Model C.

Navasota Fats

You might recall my favorite story about Kerry Kooken, the "Name on the Label". Well, true to his word, Kerry mailed me a photo of him and Minnesota Fats and a Fats business card. I put the photo and the card on the page at the bottom. In case you can't tell, Kerry is the handsome guy who looks like he just won. http://www.palmercollector.com/Model20KerryPage.html

Fresh Catalog

I came back to a new catalog in the mail - thanks to JG in KY- (Bevo) - thanks Jim. Finally! A Palmer Pete Margo series high quality photo. This quality of this brochure is so good, you can spot the Helmstetter forearms used on some of the cues in the late 1980's.

Now, the really Big News!

Peter Balner

I was contacted by Peter Balner. First of all, I would like to say that Peter is a very gracious and helpful individual. He is doing very well and is now retired at his young age. His mother, Ilona, is a spry 84 years old and she is also doing well.

This is just about the greatest thing that could happen to a Palmer Collector. Peter was with Palmer right from the beginning and is an incredible source of information. I sent him my first series of questions and I was astounded by his detailed answers.

This is going to be a great thing for anyone interested in this historic time period of cue making. His answers have cleared a lot of questions up including some facts which are not facts at all and some mythology which will prove to be just that.

Maui

As a final note, I worked with our 10 year old daughter on scuba dive training this summer. We just took her down on Maui for the first time last week ( a beach dive in rough conditions) and she did beautifully. We lucked into a bunch of giant sea turtles. There was one almost as big as her. Here's the pic:

The pics were taken by a dive master who had a Canon G6 with a pretty nice housing and flash set up. We only dive once or twice a year so I sold my old Nikonos set-up. I don't know if you're into underwater photography but it is really a neat thing, especially macro's of the strange and colorful plant and animal life on tropical reefs.

My wife and I are certified and we dive whenever we take tropical trips. I initially wanted to get our daughter certified over there. I was pretty confident she would do well but you never know until you're down there with all that stuff on - some people just flip out. She's snorkeled a lot and did well in Roatan, Belize, and Cozumel earlier this year in tough conditions. She's handled stingrays and we swam with some black tip sharks and she kept her cool.

We enrolled her in a one day resort course. The location is just off the beach at Hyatt Maui where we stayed (which is West Maui as you know) maybe 300 - 400 yards straight out from where the meeting facilities are. This is a little known great scuba dive experience and we've done it several times. This has to be one of the best shallow dives in Hawaii, equal to Molokini and Lanai, but nobody else was out there but our little group. Turtles are curious but shy. They are not afraid of people. This is the largest green turtle I've ever seen - it was easily 4 feet long and probably a good 400 pounds.

we have you just where we want you.

i used an image of an old cue, since they already look worn, and pixelated it until it fit the resolution of your image.

i eyedropped the blue and layered a transparent tint over the cue.

i cut out the cue and copy/pasted, then rotated the cue to fit.

i cut out and copy/pasted the guys hand from a copy of the same image, and superimposed it over the cue.

then i softened all the edges with an eyedropper and airbrush.

i use paint shop pro, but adobe has better softening tools

Thanks for the tips. The cue really looks underwater. The hand superimposed over the cue really is a good trick.

I have jasc Paint Shop Pro 9 too which I'm learning to use but I haven't figured out all of the layering and transparencies yet. I will, just haven't gotten to it yet. I'm pretty good with the touch up tools. At some point I'll probably pick up Photoshop after I feel like I've mastered Paint Shop Pro.

psp5 is more than enough for me. psp started screwing around with the gui in the later versions(which i'm not familiar with), and it's too complicated for me.

hey bru! you tried corel painter ix?
it's like actually using paint the way it changes when going over another color in oils or the way water colors dry.

i only edit images, not create computer art. so i don't need a program that tries to imitate oils or watercolor.

Hey Chris, glad you had a blast in Hawaii. You are right, the Rambow is a nice compliment to your Palmer. When I saw the thread and that there were two pages of replies, I instantly thought that you had come up with more provenance for the cue. Hope everything is fine. I am in Bakersfield today and tomorrow, but my scheduel has changed and has tightened up a bit. I won't be able to get with you this go round. I was also going to attempt to meet Bert and Pat Schrager while here, but that was nixed as well. Take care.

Scott,

Sorry to hear you couldn't get with them. I wonder how Bert's doing?
