Some people are against the Derby?

In the last podcast of Runout-Radio, one of the hosts mentioned that some very religious, or possibly higher-moral look down on the DCC. Why is that? What makes this event more "sinful" then others?

I have never been there, but thinking of taking the trip down to spectate and shop this year.

Thanks,

Lets see...you are gonna have drinking, gambling, pool, lots of "avaliable" women and other fun things happening right there next to a casino. Can't imagine why church folks would have an issue with that;)

More importantly, who cares?

You don`t see the WPT worrying that the religious zealots have an issue with their tour, why the heck would we?

Most of those same people think the world is a little over 6000 years old and that evolution is a myth. Do you really care what they think about our sport?

OK, well if that's all that's bothering them (that it takes place at a fun casino), then they should take up another sport or get over it. I thought it might be more then that if it was worth mentioning on the show.

Dcc

As far as the people that oppose all of this, the Casino POURS money back into the local economy, and I'm sure at some point these people that seem to oppose the events that take place at the casino are in some way benefitting from the casino's revenue sharing initiative's. The schools they build in southern Indiana since they put the casino's in are absolutely off the charts!

Now what I heard is that those church folks were only against the 9 ball, banks, and one pocket players....but that they approved of the straight pool and 3-cushion-billiard players.........:D

Area

The area around Louisville is huge for gambling. It has always been since the days of Johnston City. Covington used to be a big underground gambling area before the days of legal gambling became big in Las Vegas. Your always going to have people like Palin telling others how to behave and your going to hell if you don't. Its no different around the big L. The moralist will always complain, let them.
