Some useful break Tips from Buddy Hall

I had seen these before but watched again. It is obvious that Buddy doesn't know what he hell he's talking about.

If you notice, when he breaks:

1. Both feet stay on the floor and he doesn't jump out of his shoes.
2. He doesn't try to to crush or overpower the ball but hits a nice controlled stroke.
3. He doesn't follow thru halfway down the table and bend his shaft almost to the breaking point.
4. His only objectives are to make a ball and have a shot.

Someone needs to explain the game to him
 
there's a few different types of breaks, some more controlled than others. It's nice to have 6 or so "go to" breaks in your book when the balls aren't rolling right. Typically with 9-ball I will use a power break with a touch of "stop english" so it will draw back a hair and I'll hope for the best because occasionally I'll hit dead center in the opposite side pocket. Normally, I'll make the side ball in the corner pocket.

*Now that I watch the videos Buddy Hall made the same break I do but I use a more powerful exaggerated motion. And his lie on the 1-ball was beautiful.

Also, keep in mind that most of us don't regularly get to use the speed of simonis or other fast cloths on a regular basis.
 
i've got an accu-stats match of buddy versus earl - an amazing match because it features my two favourite players to watch. both of them break extremely well in this match but buddy especially impressed me. he absolutely crushed the one ball dead head on time and time again and was keeping the cueball in the middle of the table. the cracking sound of contact and the sound of the cue ball bouncing on the slate would give any 9-ball fan an orgasm. some of the best breaking i've ever seen it was.

incidentally lol, it wasn't working for him. earl was racking and billy incardona and co commentator pointed out that maybe this could explain why earl's breaks were proving very productive...
 
You can't go wrong taking a tip from Buddy Hall. He once told me to make a ball and then have the QB move to the next ball I needed to make. "It's all about the QB stupid," he said. Johnnyt
 
well, ya dont think there's any chance that what your viewing took many, MANY breaks to get it just right for the rest of the world to see? and we only, of course, get to view the breaks that were productive and what they wanted us to see?

Shouldn't you be complaining about another failed run-out?
 
I have watched Buddy, Mike S., and Earl play 9-ball in their best years. Although they were all very close in talent...I would put my money on Buddy in 9-ball back in the day. Johnnyt
 
loved those vids. actually helped me out a bit. alot better than my 'put the ball on the cloth and knock the crap out of it' approach. haha
