What piss's me off is the over emphasis on the IPT <yeah its a lot of cash> and the easily forgotten smaller tournaments. For example, The Texas State 9-Ball tournament went off last weekend and AZ didnt mention word one. Meanwhile...Dawn Hopkins wins the Rhode Island Womens title and there is an article. Only reason that was mentioned is because she is a known name. Seems to me that all the billiard industry is focused on the IPT and is basically overlooking what got all those players where they are...the smaller tournaments that have history. JMO

well said voodoo....I've always liked the grass roots feel of AZ and how they covered the smaller events. Nothing cooler than playing in a tourney and seeing your name on the board.

Yes and no. I think AZBilliards doesn't go around looking for the tournament information it posts, it is incumbent upon the tournament organizers to send the information to AZBilliards. I know a little about the RI championship and that tour because a good friend of mine came in 4th. Somebody associated with the tour wrote that article and made sure it got in, it wasn't Dawn's name that got it there. Dawn's presence may have got it listed sooner, but it would have been there ultimately. There is a small "B" tour up here in New England (mostly MA) which gets write ups regularly and it is the same thing the tournament director drives it's appearance.
As far as the IPT goes, I am also damn sick of hearing about it and bypass most of the threads concerning it. And I sure wish Deno would quit sending out all this IPT spam email I get. I hope Deno isn't looking for a new job with the advent of the new owner.

A little help from the people who are running or participating in the tourney wouldn't hurt.

If there is an event people would like to have more info on, please, by all means....bring it up before the event rather than after.

Cats, you know I'm all about the pool and I wasnt knocking Dawn or the RI tournament. I was pointing out to the Masses <no pun intended:D> the disregard for the other tournaments. When I ran my One Pocket tour, Mike <who I am not knocking either>and I were on the phone avery 3 hours. Now I know he knew the Tx State tourney was happening, cause its been happening for 15+ yrs. Dont forget the lil guy, he makes your handle go way up is all I'm saying.

I heard....

I ran into a guy who said he was a newly hired writer for Billiards Digest Magazine totally by accident at a neighborhood tavern a couple weeks ago, and I asked him why tournaments in general didn't get more mainstream press, and his response was kind of interesting. He said basically, and I'm paraphrasing, in his opinion, many of the tournament hosts were more interested in getting the action going and really didn't want too many people at their events.

Can't blame the IPT for this.

Voodoo,

The only way you're going to see results from the smaller tournaments is if the Tour Coordinator or someone else who was there writes up the results.

I write up all the articles for my tour and submit them with a day or two of the finish. Mike has never failed to post up my pics and articles on this site. Sometimes I even make the front page feature article if a WPBA Tour[edit]ing Pro[/edit] takes off the event.

When the owner of The Break Room in Spartanburg, SC contacted Mason King with the results of the SC State 9 ball Championship, he was told that BD wasn't interested in coverage of "local tournaments". Not cool, IMNSHO. Seems to me that state championship tournaments should get mention in a national magazine.

Ditto for the Tiger (Planet Pool) Tour results. Providing a "ready-to-publish" article is very key. When websites and magazines publish smaller events it mostly benefits the event so help 'em out!

I never had to write a thing Barb...Mike was diligent about calling for updates. I guess AZ outgrew the lil guys unless a named player wins the event...only thing I ever "wrote" was for Inside Pool in 2001 for my tours player of the year, Nick Varner. So its not the only way I will see results. With comments from Da Poet and Pushout ringing out I have to say that the smoke and mirrors of the IPT has overtaken the grassroots tournaments information. All you guys that play regonal event better practice real hard, get your IPT tour card if you wanna see your name in text:rolleyes:
