I'm an avid 14-1 player and after moving to Florence SC have been unable to locate a place nearby to play. There are a couple of rooms in Columbia about 70 miles away or Charlotte at 150 or so. Does anyone know of a room with full size 9ft playing environments? Sure sorry I sold my Gold Crown now.

There are a couple of good players in Florence, I am sure they have somewhere to play. I live in Camden about 40 miles down I-20 from you. You can't beat Grady's for the playing equipment.

Thanks. When I lived in Cola I recall Grady's earlier room over by Broad River road and I was not aware he reopened another site. I'll head down this weekend and check it out. Hopefully I'll run into some of the Florence players. Agan, thanks for the info.

14.1

Mike,
I play at a room in Myrtle Beach...Smokehouse Billiards...they have 3 9ft Olhausens, and 4 8 ft Olhausens and several bar boxes. I am currently new to the game of straight pool, play mostly 1 pocket and 9 ball, but I have just this past week been talking to the owner about starting a round robin format straight pool tournament on a weekly basis. Restart every 5 weeks. I can let you know if we get it off the ground. I can also highly reccomend Grady's new room in Lexington...I grew up 5 min from there, and have been in several times since it opened.

I am going to try to be there for a while this weekend. I may have other things to tend to, but hopefully will be able to squeeze in a few hours.

I played in a tournament at Smokehouse a few years ago, why don't they hold tournaments there anymore?

Hey Easy, I used to stop in to a place "the Golden Palace?" right in the middle of town. Still there in Florence? I also took a couple of scores in Dillon at the Razzle Dazzle. I heard it burned down. Truth? What about 301 Snack Bar. Gosh, what a dump. But they sure would gamble. That big mudball and that one guy (his name escapes me) could really whip it around. Some of the best times of my life were around that area. On my way to Myrtle Beach, I met this girl at the poolroom there, and won around fifteen hundred. First night of my vacation. This guy was playing six ball on the barbox for Twenty a game, then forty. It got to the point, that if he'd miss, he'd rake'em. Even if there were three or four balls left. Lot of fun in my mid twenties around there.

I found smokehouse on the web and thought about driving down there. Any info on 14.1 league, tournament etc. would be greatly appreciated. I'll be in Lex. at Gradys on Sat. and hope to run into some of you then.

Hey Mike,

Good luck. If I remember correctly, there aren't too many 14.1 players or nice places with 9 foot tables around Florence.

Easy...Smokehouse Info

Smokehouse has recently changed ownership, and the new owner is wanting to have some big tournaments...right now, there is a 9 ball tourney on Sat afternoons, and a 8 ball tourney on Sunday afternoons. They are both on bar boxes. I know the owner is about to invest more money into the business, do some renovating and expanding and add more 9 footers. He is considering adding another location here at the beach as well. Not sure what is going to happen, but the renovations are supposed to be happening soon.
