Lets talk about this.....so Jerry passes away and Laurie is making cues ever since? If she's not making cues then she must have hired someone. Essentially they are living off Jerry's success. How old is she? Is she building these cues and completing orders?
If she's not building these cues herself then SW is regulated to being a glorified production brand. A production brand that isn't very efficient.
Now all respect goes to her if she is continuing her husband's legacy and building cues herself.
The SW brand isn't what it use to be and hasn't been for quite some time now. People may have passed that were on that waiting list and the younger guys have no idea about this brand. They have came and gone in my mind. With the exception of threads like this that reminds us they still exist.
How are they operating now?
I started doing biz w/SW cues in the lare 80's or early 90's and still consider Laurie a friend. i recv't at least two cues per year from them until ii got out of pool, to include cues, in 2001,. The deal was that you got on a list and when your name came up you specked out what you wanted and Laurie would call when your cue was complete at which time you'd pay for the cue, price being their list price effective when you GOT on the LIST, equals instant equity.
The SW shop had at least 3 employees in addition to J and L prior to J's tragic death in May of 1996, all who were hired and well trained by J and the shop "leadman" who was Al. L's primary responsibilities were admin functions in addition to talking to jamocks like me.
L is now in her 60's or early 70's.
I recv'd the first cue I'D with the cactus, ser # & yr, #301-93
No one that hasn't been to their shop and knows how to build cues is qualified to judge how efficient the shop was or is.
Based on staff and logistics their goal was to build apprx 20 to 30 cues per month, which they normally did.
i'm not sure when, but, at some point the pricing structure was changed, the price now is current price at delivery
They are still doing things the right way based on not even a rumor applicable to lack of customer service or moral turpitude in the 42 yrs they've been in biz
When my partner Alex started his shop in 96 we incorporated many of SW Cues principles into "BRICK" cues
As far as i know the SW crew have always been GOOD people & i wish them the best!!
Hans, hope this gets you up to speed on the early days
