The ones for Southwest and others are not threaded, I know which ones your talking about, that's what I use in my cues.

I have some 3/8-16. I have used them as threaded, but also used them as a plug when there was no need for a W-bolt. When I have used them as a plug, I usually counter sink them pretty far, and they hold very well like that.
