Southwest Amateur Tournament - Temple TX 17-19 OCT

venue change

Hey just wanted to ensure that the TD will be able to let all the entrants know that the venue location has changed. I assume that some folks are not on-line looking at this thread periodically.

I made the TD aware of that scenario and he said he would contact people via phone or email.

ps. actually double is good, and some minis too!
Ray, some day I'll be ready for you. Your Mike Davis look-alike stroke intimidates me a bit.

Updates from Temple, TX at The Green Room

Just got home a little while ago from Temple. First off, let me say the venue The Green Room is sweeeeeet! They have 10 7' Diamond Smart Tables and two 9' Diamonds. It is BYOB because they don't have their liquor license yet, but the tables were so nice -- the owners were very cordial and showed everyone a great Texas welcome. If you are all are ever passing by Temple, you need to stop by. It is a great place!

Let's see on the Men's Open side (32 players), Bonnie Plowman won the hot seat match against Mike (Tyke) Rabon from Houston. Bonnie is tearing it up for sure. Because of her Master status, she had to play in the Men's Division and for some of dem boys' who didn't know who she was, they sure do now.....:D Last guys standing when I left were Ricky Reed, Kevin F...berger...can't remember his last name, Tyke and Charlie Smith from Sherman. Bonnie played in an 8-ball tournament there on Friday night and out of 20 players she took 1st place. So the girl definitely has got game!!! I think 1st place prize in the men's division is $500.

On the women's side there were 18 girls and Kim Pierce won against aka Trigger for the hot seat. And the girl that knocked me out, some Donna lady was playing some Tina girl; then the winner would play Melinda and they the winner of that match would have to double dip Kim. I think 1st place prize in the women's is $380.

Also Charlie Smith & Tracie Voelkering took 2nd in the Scotch Doubles. Not bad for neither one having a partner, until "yours truly" hooked them up. Charlie thanked me by buying me a prime rib at Texas Roadhouse. Thank you Charlie, you are awesome----I don't care what Nancy says about you.

Also 1st place in scotch doubles went to Ricardo E. and Joo Yoo K. (she looked like Yoko Ono)

It was a good tournament and the tables were B-E-A-UTIFUL.

Also big thanks goes out to Big Truck for playing scotch doubles with me. It was all good and the Crown was soothing to say the least. Big Truck and my 1st match was against Ricardo and Yoko (who took eventually 1st place). Next time Ray, I don't care what time it is----we are starting off with a Crown and 7. It will make us loose.....

Woo-Hoo!!! Go Charlie!! Go Charlie! That's one of my boys!!

BTW, I sub'd in for you in league Thursday night!! (Just kidding, I just went down there to watch...)

Yea to everyone else, too. Wish I could have gone to this one.

Final Updates

The SWAT (Southwest Amateur Tournament is now over)

Melinda aka Trigger Bailey took 1st
Kim Pierce 2nd
Dena - 3rd
Donna -4th

Bonnie Plowman wins the Men's event - 1st
Tyke Rabon - 2nd
Charlie Smith - 3rd
Kevin Far-fa-neugen- (not really his last name but I don't remember what it is and can't spell it so I improvised)---anyhow he took 4th.

There were other places on the men's---I think it paid through 7th/8th not for sure. Maybe ne14tennis will update later with all places and prize monies.

Congrats to everyone. Great times!

Thanks for the update Monica! And both events won by women! Totally awesome!

I played terrible in the hotseat match and Kim Pierce played good; I lost 3-5. I played much better in the finals and won the first set 5-2 (or 3) and then the second set 5-1. Bonnie would have high-fived me harder, but she wasn't feeling well (got a stomach flu type thing saturday night) and was still trying to fight it off.

I love The Green Room!

Congrat's to Monica for placing 5th! You go girl! And to Tracie and Charlie for their second place finish in the scotch! :D

Congratulations!!

High five to my buddy akaTrigger! She couldn't have done it without a good dose of Fatboy's BBQ!! LOL ;)

Also..... Way to go Bonnie!! This chick can play!! Snapped off the Open division! Next she'll be coming to Waco!!! Look out guys!

I never visited much with Bonnie before this weekend. I must say......I LIKE Bonnie!! She's is way fun! Never a dull moment. Word is we may be seeing more of her. I hope so!!

I wasn't able to beat hardly anyone at the Southwest Tournament so I went over to Dooley's for MORE barbox 8ball and snapped it off. I was telling akaTrigger earlier what my tombstone will say. :grin-square:

Howdy, are you going to be putting up any photos?

Great Fun

Just wanted to thank Robert Tabor (TD) and the Green Room owners (Larry & Ted) for a great 3 FULL DAYS of fun. Also, thanks too Tracie (my scotch doubles) for playing with me.:thumbup2: Tracie is a small woman, but she carried this 240lb. fat guy through all the matches making up for all my miscues. I would leave her bad and she would pull off some incredible shots too save us. Thanks Monica for hooking us up.

I hope Bonnie is feeling better, it must have been the nut that made her sick.

Tracie, your a great player and lots of fun too play with. Thanks again!!!
