How do you get on the wait list and what is it likely to cost compared w/ a used Southwest?
 
For a new South West cue you can call Laurie to get on the list. The number is 1-702-870-9615.

It is my experience that used Southwests are generally around 30% higher than new ones if they are in good condition. I am not quite current on the pricing but my new one cost $1400 and ones just like it used were selling for around $2100 at the time I received mine.

Last time I talked to Laurie she was still taking orders, but be patient. I ordered mine in Jan '97 and received it in March '05. I could've turned it on ebay the day I got it for nice $$$ but I made the mistake of hitting with it first.

Today, if a person were to order a SW fully aware of the 7 plus year wait list, how much do they need down on the cue to be made? Or is the total due only when the cue is complete?

No deposit needed - they a list of willing buyers who will take any cue that is not claimed. Pretty good job security.
 
ok. so whats with the wait. are they only made by one person. just curious. this past weekend i heard they were 9 yrs out...

They are actually a lot closer now than they have ever been (used vs new). Laurie is not locking in at current prices, so if you order a cue now, you'll wait appx. 9 years and pay the current price then. Demand is a little lower lately on the secondary market, so the prices aren't as high, unless you have something very unusal like ebony on ebony. I think there will be some pretty good bargains to be had on SWs this year if you look around.

No, they are made by small team overseen by Laurie....same guys have been making them for years.
 
You wait. I know one of the builders for SW cues and the only reason he has one is because he made it himself.

thats 100% correct, and they dont rush anything out the door so every cue they deliver is perfect, i have never heard of a SW falling apart etc. funny thing is jerry took the table out of there years ago so the cues never touch a ball before they are shipped. they also had a pinball machine years ago too. :(

Don't you mean 50% higher. The markup is 50% but the profit or margin is 33 1/3%.

You buy it for $1400 and sell it for $1400 + .5 x 1400 = $2100

You made $700 / $2100 = 33.33...%

No matter how it is done the seller comes out with $700 more than he paid for it in this example. This is why when someone says that I am only making 33% they mean that they are marking it up 50%.
