Spaghetti Weighting?

You may be wondering if I'm in the right forum. Well, this may sound nuts, but here goes.

I wanted to feel what a really heavy cue would feel like. So I took a 16 oz. box of spaghetti (size #8, though I expect Angel Hair to be a better choice) and spread it out evenly on a table with the strands touching each other side by side. I then measured the length of the spread, which came to about 34 inches. Dividing by 16, I found the width of spaghetti that comes to 1 oz... just over 2 inches.

I then grabbed 3 rubber bands and banded the spaghetti evenly and securely around the cue above the wrap. This didn't move the balance point significantly, though I was able to do so by simply sliding the pasta, past'a the joint.

After reading that Mizerak played with a 24 oz. cue, I wanted to feel this weight and turned my 19 oz. Adam into a 24 oz. cue for 79 cents. Actually, I only used 5 oz. of pasta, so, lets see, that comes to 25 cents. Then again I may eat the pasta, so I guess it cost me nothing but embarassment on this forum.:o

I have a friend who has been taping weights to the shaft and forearm to simulate what you have designed. I'll tell him about your idea. Nice one. Rep to you. Now if you can figure out how to manipulate the taper and diameter back and forth on a shaft, I will follow your lead. :)

Although useful under most circumstances, I suppose spaghetti can't solve all of a pool player's problems all the time, huh? Thanks Joey.

Oh yes, never less than a plethora for me. I ain't tiny.

I tried this once also, but could never get the sauce outta my wrap. :D
I forgot to mention the cue bib... effective protection for cue-linary sports.

Yeah, but I bet Mizerak couldn't throw his cue to the ceiling and have it stick when he was done! :D

I had a 23 Oz break cue for about 2 days. Wow, that thing was way heavy! Trying to play with it was a joke for me. Felt like it was gong to pull me down the table each time I broke with it.

Good luck with your experiment.

Lol
Spaghetti and cues... who could have foreseen the limitless comic potential.

I wouldn't think a break cue could be effective that heavy. I remember reading something a while back about Bob Jewett and some buddies doing some garage breaking experiments off of a truly "open" table, no rail, and they came up with somewhere in the 19 oz. range for the ideal weight to break.
So I wouldn't guess that Mizerak broke with that 24 oz. monster. He probably broke some players' wills though.

So how did it actually play? Were you running racks as good as Steve Mizerak?:D

Oh and this thread requires pictures of this custom cue.

Well, I only got a chance to hit a few soft to medium speed shots with it. And yes, I can probably run as well as Steve could. Oh sorry, I didn't see the word "racks" in your post. Uh, then, not quite.

I should post pics, shouldn't I? Okay, maybe tomorrow. It looks like my cue is wearing a hula skirt.

Thanks for the pictue. There are alot of things to put on the outside to try a different balance point. The only problem is tyring to get it to stay and behave like a truely solid state mass. Anyway it will give an idea of what is needed to get the balance you want.

bluepepper, sorry I'm out of rep for you at the moment. That's what I call creativity! :) One could even wrap the spaghetti with tape around so they are tight fixed to the butt sleeve.
San Giorgio should consider placing a commercial at next IPT match instead of Giordano's. Oh, and they sound almost the same

No rep necessary. Thanks for the endorsement though.
You can see that this cue isn't a beauty, with or without the pasta, so I wasn't concerned about its finish. But I really should warn people that the spaghetti may scratch the finish on a nice cue.
Jim made me realize that rubberbands beneath the pasta before attaching the pasta with bands around it would be best to keep it from sliding on harder shots. And this would prevent scratches as well.
Your suggestion of tape would work to keep it together as well.

a big meatball on the buttcap would be sweet.

So..what was the affects of the heavier cue? How did it affect your speed control on "touchy" soft shots?

There was a poster that had made a cue that had removable weight bolts throughout the butt section...He could/did experiment with all kinds of combinations of weights and balance points and shafts (at different weghts)

He also builds custom Drivers for Golfers, so he has a farily strong background in playing around with custom weighting and corresponding balance points...

He would be a good person for you to talk to about your experiments, but he unfortunatly has been banned.

I do not know how to get in touch with him as I lost his phone number when my Cell Phone took a dump a while back.

There may be some posters on here that would know how to get in touch with him......I am not sure if he even posts on any boards these days...

this is hilarious. I'm saving this picture so in the future when noone believes this story i'll have a pic of it.

wow.

It feels great. I'm a pretty big guy, maybe that's why. I don't know. I think speed control would be fine. But I don't know if I'll actually add that much weight to the cue when I do the internal weight adjusment.

Coincidence, I happen to make my own golf clubs as well. Maybe we're twins separated at birth.
I wish I could adjust my Meucci as easily as the Adam, but the Meucci has no more room for internal weight.

So my contribution to pocket billiard lore will be the spaghetti cue? Oy!

Put the tape underneath, limit scratches. I am ordering a Black Boar with a spaghetti wrap!!!!!! :D :D  :D :D This thread is probably one of the craziest threads I have read on this forum, but I think you all share that sentiment already. Another COORS is on the horizon.

Do you believe in fate?

How funny is it that this guy is named Jeff too.
Damn - it's just to Jeffin' funny.

I don't know what to say. For once I'm at a loss for words. Have a nice game, or dinner, or whichever comes first. :)

A notice to all the Jeffs out there... our name is being used as both a verb and an adverb. We at JNN anticipate parts of speech yet to come. Tune in later for more updates.
Jeffing off now...
