To add further to my previous post. I was wondering more if players took some of the hardcore drugs. Coke, Heroin. All that junk?
Not in my opinion. Speed isn't a drug, is it ? I thought it was a VITAMIN. We didn't take Coke or Heroin......... until the 80's.
Now, it's just Long Island Iced Tea and Adipex (Ionamin,Fastin, etc.) Immodium and Depends....

Face, I meant FACE !

Quote Smorgass Bored: I got it. I laughed so hard,I spit up my Desoxyn......

Knew some one would. In fact, many. That's funny too Smorg, spittin up Desoxyn, LMAO.

What Smorg said, yea he's right. Diet pills, and that is all they were, just like a strong vitamin. No fuzzy head, no seeing Abe Lincoln's face in the 9 ball. It was just like drinking 6-8 cups of coffee. You lost your appitite and talked a lot. It also made you focus totally on pool while at the table. NON Addictive and the problem now is they don't make them any more so the kids of today have to go to the really strong addictive drugs like crystal meth, crack, acid, EX and alike that can and do kill ya. 99% of the pool players of the era used diet pills at one time or another, especally if you were in a 2-3 day session. No one played pool on weed, coke, acid or downers of any kind. If you did, it was like giving your money away.

If it sounds like I'm a Libertarian it's probably because I am. I haven't done any type of drugs sense 1981 and then it was prescribed diet pills called 75mg. Preludin that had Bi62 written on them. I wish I could get them again. I lost weight with them and I didn't abuse them. Others did. NONE DIED FROM DIET PILLS. Many have died sense they stopped making them though.

You can (or could) still get the old stuff in Mexico. A few years back, I had a friend of mine pick up 100 Desoxyn while in Mexico. He was SUPPOSED to come right back across the border, but he let a cab driver take him farther inland (to party). Turns out, the cab driver abandoned him in the early a.m. and he got mugged for his cash, jewelry and MY pills....
Oy-Vey ! I broke off my friendship with this moron.

Matthew

Matthew, I had no intentioin of changing the course of your origional post. All I intended to do was interject a bit of humor. Your title SPEED begged for witticism. For this is apologize.

Your's questiion deserves a honest response. So here's mine. Other than the way I did it, losing your money until you find someone you can beat, I would suggest playing local tournaments and seeing who you can beat there. Maybe next week the guy that beat you last week will be in toruble. Practice, it can never hurt. Find a good player and match up, cheap, if you can. Then adjust if you win or lose.....JMO--ICBW.

Nah man it's cool. It does deserve a bit of humor. I didn't even care that it changed. I just felt kinda bad for knockin' McCready.
So no harm no foul.

Keith McCready

I hear ya Matthew. What ever Keith did or didn't do 20-30 years ago doesn't matter one iota because he has his life going in the right direction now. Getting with Jennie Ann is the best move he ever made, "And Keith has made MANY moves, LOL." He is playing well again and his book, penned by he and Jennie Ann has the potential to be the best selling pool book in history. Although Humphrey's "The Green Felt Jungle" is an awesome read. Check it out while you are waiting for Keith's book.

I've been meaning to pick that up. I read "Playing Off the Rail" and that was good. "The Green Felt Jungle" seems kinda like that. It looks good.

Somebody once said that if you can remember the 60's and 70's, you weren't really there. ICRS about those days!

McCumber gave a little insight about Keith in his book.

It will be interesting to see what Keith puts in his book. Has the makings of a good read.

I've heard it told alot, but I've never seen anyone play better when drinking..no, wait, San Jose Dick is pretty solid when he has his flask with him. OK, so one player.

Anyway, I have seen a lot of players shoot so-so until they take a 20 minute "burn ride" around the block (smoke some weed), and then proceed to shoot the lights out. It is though, usually the younger crowd (30 and under?)

Haven't seen many players on blow. I guess maybe it catches up with them until they're not players anymore.

Well I don't want to put a name out on this forum but there is a player in the Bay Area that plays lights out. I saw him one morning at Bucktooth's place in Manteca. It was about 9:00 in the morning on a Sunday. This guy had beer cans laying all over the place and they were all empty. He was playing this guy for money. He could barely stand up straight but when he leaned over that pool table and put his cue on the table, he looked like he was sober as a judge. He looked and acted like two different people, a drunk off the table and a consumate player on the table. It was a real Jekyl/Hyde kind of thing. Never seen anything quite like that. Of course I'm sure this guy's future is not very bright in or outside of pool and that's a real shame!!!!

Hey Rick, you must have never seen Scotty Townsend play. If I didn't know the area he is in now I would assume you had to be talking about him. Night and Day. I know of what you speak.

Hemi,

Scotty Townsend, that name sounds awfully familiar. I think I might have seen him at Hard Times in Sacramento or up in Reno. Anyway, it's a shame to see anyone loaded with talent, talent that you wish you had, waste it like that!

Nice shot Rick. He finished 9-12 at the Sands Regency in Reno. Bustamonte knocked him out. Was 1994 World bar Table Champion.

Larry, I agree with you 110%. I have seen the damage done to myself and others from drug abuse. Like they all say, it helps the pool game for awhile but after that it's all downhill.

We may not agree on many things but, on this one i'm with ya all the way.

There is another AZ poster who is battling numerous medical conditions as a result of his past drug abuse. Sometimes we have to learn our life lessons the hard way. I know i've learned mine.

On another topic i would like to say that in the past week or two Larry, you have posted some of your best. It's about time you are sharing your knowledge and experience with us.Even when someone has attacked you, you have turned the other cheek. I hope you continue to share your knowledge with us, i'm looking forward to it.

Kent Mc.
