Earning the right to display "arrogance"

Joe:

Are you enjoying this, or something? How many times are you going to edit and append-to your posts, before it stops being a moving target? This one changed *twice* right in front of my eyes. You mentioned using MSWord to help with spelling (a great technique). However, it sounds to me like your posts are still a work in progress even after you press "Submit Reply" -- why not wait until you've solidified what you're going to say in MSWord first?

Keep in mind, Scott Lee, Randy G., et al. are NOT Frank Lloyd Wright. Are you going to start quoting from Theodore Roosevelt next? You can dig up all the fancy quotes you want. In relation to this arrogance topic, you're merely putting lipstick on a pig.

Fortunately or unfortunately (take your pick), I'm going to bow-out of this exchange. I'm not sure if you are, but I'm *NOT* enjoying this. I don't like getting into "sparring contests," unlike some of the posters here. Like I said, I post to enlighten and inform, blowing the dust off of things so folks can see what's underneath. I was hoping that my contributions to this thread would help eliminate any notion that there's an "SPF mafia" as was originally put on the table in that other thread. Unfortunately, this poll and the "statistical defenses" of, as well as your own admission/acknowledgment of the "...more homeboys" thing, not only serves to add uncertainly to its non-existence, but also to those prospective students sitting on the fence trying to decide whether to pursue SPF, or other instruction.

I think I've more than made my case, and sadly, it was initially to support you in one small way (i.e. keeping posters on topic and not clouding the waters). I disagree with the notion of even having a poll in the first place, especially one so open-ended and prone to white-knuckle Bill Buckley-esque language-layering defenses. I made that clear, and that's all I can say.

Respectfully,
-Sean

Sean said, "Aha, I think I see where your perception is problematic related to the poll! It begins at Person One. The issue taken by Person Two (at least the really vocal two in that other thread, you know who they are) was *NOT* about deceptive advertising. It was about ARROGANCE. "

I said, "... saying you are best when you are not." I think this is a tactful way of re-stating arrogance.

Arrogance is a subjective term. When told he was arrogant, Frank Loyd Wright (Sp) said he had not found a reaon not to be what others call arrogant.

Hu, my questiobnable choices were dictated by the Google search engine and the dispay of numerical estimates. I did not want to be accused of selective reporting. I looked up satisfaction rates for schools and find simialr results 78 - 88 parental satisfaction. Parents are not a bad choice as they can pull their kids out of one school and select another. Page through this if you are inclined. I reference parental satisfaction as a better comparison.

no real freedom of choice in public schools

Joe,

There is no freedom of choice in public schools. That was struck down as racial discrimination. If the poll had been about private schools and had they asked more direct questions instead of asking questions and then interpreting what the answers meant the poll would be more relevant.

Bottom line, I have owned well over a dozen businesses in the last forty years. You will never convince me that one in eight unhappy customers is a good thing.

Yeah Sean, I am kinda enjoying this dialog. Sorry about the multiple edits, I will try to do better. Unfortunately when ones makes a point it is not often acknowledged. Obviously we have different thoughts on the use of data for the insight it provides.

With regard to the arrogance thing, I reviewed the prior posts in a cursory way attempting to review comments by those who have taken lessons. There were 12 positive comments; one appeared to be neutral and no comments about negative experiences. In the 12 positive comments the posters used the following phrases that seemed to be related to the instructor,

Looking forward (to lesson or next lesson),
glad to take lesson,
really helpful,
thoroughly enjoyed,
worth more than I paid.
excellent communicator.

While these do not address the arrogance issue directly they do seem to imply that good interpersonal skills were used.
