Hi Guys.

Wanting to run a State open 9-ball but am having a problem. I need to find some sponsors.

Who (or What company) should i talk to about being a possible sponsor?
Any ideas or suggestions?

Cheers,
Alex.

That guy's just messing with you about Travis Trotter. Sponsorship dough is really hard to come by nowadays with the economy and the industry in the toilet. I'd just say to contact the usual suspects and see if any of them will pony up.

Yea, thanks! :)
I have tryed some big name companies like Predator etc etc etc, and just not getting anywhere! A few Billiard companies are willing to put up a cue or some products, but no money! The main need for some big sponsors is money to put the prize pool up, and therefor a bigger Tournament, more prize money, more players, more pool etc!
Ah i can just keep nashing away writing more emails, but any help or suggestions are greatfully appreciated!

Cheers,
Alex

Alex,

How are you presenting it to the potential sponsors? You'll have more luck if you have a professional presentation ready, can give them reasons to sponsor - what's in it for them - especially if they are out of the pool mainstream.

One year I was able to wangle a sponsorship from an energy drink company pointing out to them that they had been mentioned on a pool forum (AZB if I recall correctly) as a great product for players. They came up with some cash if we made them the presenting sponsor (The Va State 9 Ball Championships presented by 5 Hour Energy Drink) and gave us a bunch of product and t shirts. We plastered their logo all over the place, set up a table with products, made up bags for all the players and it really added to the event.

Check into local car dealerships, hotels, bars, etc and see who would want to sponsor. A local bar, even if the tournament isn't being held there, may have some interest particularly if they have tables.

Most important thing is to provide them with some incentive for sponsoring.

Just my 2 cents.

If you don't mind me asking, how much sponsorship money did u get out of the company?

Well, i have emailed some big name billiard/cue companies and laid out a nice email for them. I did give them incentives saying if they sponsored this we would put there company name on the Flyer/poster that we would send out to all the players and pool halls across Australia, and that they can also display there company banner.

You have given me an idea, i'm going to talk to some energy drink companies here in Australia. We sell Redbull, mother and V energy drinks here at the pool hall. I should also try coke a cola!
What other incentive do you think i can offer them?

Thanks for your reply. quite helpfull! :)

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.
First: What kind of sponsorship are you looking for? All bills paid? Tourney entry fees? Cash? Travel expenses? Free products?

Second: you need a hook to get a sponsor. And usually that hook equates to advertising for them which results in exposure and sales. What is your hook?

Third: keep in mind that there are world class, top notch pros out there that can't even get a dime from sponsors. They have the tools, the exposure, the ability, but there just isn't enough money to go around.

I think you have to look at sponsorship, from both sides. Just what is the sponsor get out of this? Will putting his name on this tournament, going to get him more business? If not, then there is no need to GIVE YOU HIS MONEY. It has to benifit BOTH, parties or it's no good...JER
