Sport King cushion replacement question

I just became the owner of a well cared for 1958 Sport King o/s 8'. I will be picking it up next week, it's already taken apart. Am I to assume the subrail modification will be the same as a similar year Gold Crown when installing new k55 superspeeds? In your experience, what are the odds the original monarchs are still good? Is there some sort of test I can do without putting it together just to take it apart again to replace the cloth? TIA

Same modification as any early GC, but chances are the Monarch Superspeeds on the rails are just fine.

So I got the table. Barely used. The cushions seem just fine, as you predicted. It doesn't look like it ever had been reclothed. Was it normal to use tacks or nails to install cloth? Any tips on removing the nails efficiently? Should I just pick up an upholstery tack lifter?

The carpet tacks will come out pretty easy, small flat tip screw driver works just fine.

I would think using tacks like that would have been a real pain compared to using staples, possibly even a 2 person job. I wonder how common it was?

Finally got my Sport King table completed. Tightened up the pockets a bit and fitted with some tournament blue 860. I couldn't be happier. It was my first time working with Simonis, hats off to you guys who do this professionally - that stuff is not for the faint of heart. I have some tiger striping to remind me to use the pros next time, but who am I kidding I'll be just as stubborn.
But man I love the looks of this table...
