Sports Palace?

The Sport Palace holds a special place in my heart
It’s a long story how I found out about it
But I used to go and watch Earl Heisler and New York Blackie perform their magic as the road players would come through and match up

The Sports Palace was a legendary room from the 1960's on. It was right there with LeCue in Houston and Congress Bowl in Miami as the most famous poolrooms in the South. Loved that place, day and night action with all kinds of players and people. I liked to hang out and take it all in.

Last time I was there was 1985….Flyboy made a three banker at one hole to get one game up…small smile of satisfaction…loved the game.
Joey with a Tie was giving some advice to a guy he was in with at 9-ball. I felt like hanging around but I had to go.

No, I didn't write this story. The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans sent out a writer and a photographer for this multipage article about the New Orleans Sports Palace. The building is completely gone, but the memories still linger on. For some of my stories, you can search for: JoeyA's Pool Stories and Adventures on your favorite browser. There are about 30-something stories I have written over the years. Hope you enjoy them. I'm probably going to write a new story about a player from Brazil, only known as Elton in the near future.

i played blackie some $20 9 ball there in 74 or 75

he'd shoot and then appear to help the OB in with body english or something to that effect

i wasn't impressed until i realized i shot once in 4 or 5 games

pulled up and thanked him for playing

of coarse they were cooking shrimp which added to the god awful humidity, great to eat though
