There is no prize money. The prize is getting into the 14.1 World Championship.

I would assume (and please don't take offense) that there was a desire to concentrate qualifiers in areas that would a. provide a global representation while b. were in areas where straight pool is often played. No offense to the west or south but the times I've been there, straight pool appeared to be a foreign concept (even though some of the best straight pool players I've ever seen were from both areas). When the 1-pocket Championships are held, I'm sure we Northerners will have a fit as well.
