Stacked leather wraps

Not true. With plain leather wraps (i.e. a flat rectangular piece), no, the wrap channel doesn't have to be cut deeper, and usually isn't with the standard swatches of leather made for the purpose of cue wraps. In fact, at the last SBE, I had Dan Dishaw replace a plain leather wrap (that wasn't installed correctly in the first place, and had lumps of glue underneath) with double-pressed linen. Before he removed the leather, he checked to be sure the wrap channel hadn't been cut any deeper. It hadn't, so it was a simple rip and replace with double-pressed linen.

For stack leather, though? I'm not sure.

I had heard the wrap path had to be cut deeper with a regular leather wrap but wasn't sure. My cue currently has linen on it.
 
Double-pressed? Is that 2 layers of linen. I had heard from a cue make that you couldn't do that. He said it wouldn't turn out right.

No, "double pressed" means pressed twice. Still a single layer of linen.

If the leather in question wasn't designed specifically for cue wraps, then yes, the wrap channel would probably have to be cut deeper. But the leather swatches you see on billiard sites (e.g. Muellers) for wraps does not need the wrap channel to be cut deeper. It's very thin for that purpose.

If done correctly, you should be able to go back to linen. There is no need to undercut the wrap channel any more to install the stack leather vs linen.

Ah, but you don't know what I have in store for that cue, mein freund! It's a gift, and I wanted to make sure that cue didn't have obvious flaws in it, which in that case, was the leather wrap with glue bumps under it. The leather also didn't look right on that cue, and a black/red linen looked much better. Summary -- it's a gift that I wanted to make look good before I turned it over.

So there! If it were me, there's be a stack leather wrap going on that cue. :p

I twas gonna give you an answer but since Ryan posted, thats pretty much all you need to know.

Wrap channels can be built back up again even if one would have to be cut or sanded for anything else.

Search UTube for Tiger Products Stack Video. Its not in it entirety but enuff to give you an idea on how it is put on.

Once you have a beautiful Stack Wrap, it is doubtful that you would ever go back to a linen anyway.
