Stacked wood vs White ferrel

Is the stacked wood tip a superior option to consider when purchasing a extra shaft. I dinged my cue yesterday and want to replace the shaft. It's a lucasi.

Are referring to the ferrule that OB uses as the stacked wood?
You can purchase them from OB, very reasonable price.

There are so many ferrule material choices these days, I guess it all depends on the type of hit you like and what you are trying to achieve.

You can buy a softer hitting ferrule, generally Titan which is good quality.
And from there you can choose material that will get you a medium to medium hard and hard.

Linen based melamine, Aegis, and some of the super hard ones like the ivorines.

If you would be more specific on the type of hit you like, some of the guys here can guide you in a bit better.

You can achieve a lot just by choosing the right ferrule material and tip.

And a ding on the shaft is generally not much to worry about as they can be repaired quite easily. That is unless you accidentally dinged it in half, which has been known to happen.
If you are looking for a new shaft, I would get a hold of a cue maker. He can build you a shaft to your specs, help you with the ferrule
and tip. All that for usually considerably cheaper than you can buy a LD shaft for.

Unless a stacked ferrule slips over a tenon, one main reason for a ferrule was to keep the tip of the shaft from mushrooming.
