Starling implications of self reflection

After awakening this morning and contemplating my busy day, my poor mind began to wander down a dark path of self reflection. As Socrates implored, my goal is always to know myself. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I must inform this forum of my secret truth. I am, at my core, a common sophomoric 9 baller, whose best game is apparently onepocket.

I am having great difficulty reconciling this startling revelation. Even as I write this, I am silently weeping. I feel so alone and ashamed! My only consolation is that I have five gallons of Cascadian Dark Ale brewing in my trusty carboy in my basement next to my nine foot Diamond Pro table.

My dear AZB friends, how can I continue to put on a brave face each day and venture forth into this cruel world???

Please help!!!

Your faithful friend,

JL

I know exactly how you feel.
After I awoke this morning, I stood looking at my self and realized I must have the ugliest mirrors in town.

There's ale and a Diamond pool table in your basement. Why would you want to venture forth?

Count your blessings, JL....you might not have a lock on anybody at nine-ball...
....but, unlike Socrates, you also don't have a hemlock.

No crime committed here.Unless of course somehow the ale were to mysteriously disappear then you write the great american novel.......The Mystery of the Disappearing Ale.......and you wake up and wonder just what happened!

Hey, you might be a hack, but at least you're a hack with five gallons of ale to consume while you ruminate on the state of your decline into mediocrity.

Mostly every day I wake up before breakfast. At that time I ask
Myself... is there a 1 pocket game around. And how much Miller Lite is onboard.

An excellent decision to wake up before you have breakfast....
...waking up after you have breakfast can be tough on your sleeping quarters.

Although I remember some long nights in the pool hall when we had breakfast before going home and to bed.

Fear not my friend, everythings gonna be alright. You are just maturing, nothing wrong with that. One pocket is a thinking Mano game - u just have decided to use your brain more so than before lol. All joking aside, I too have been where you are at. From the first time I played 1 hole I loved it! It takes quote awhile to learn it, so play 9 ball in the mean time. I still li,email 9 ball, and I do wish I had the talent for it but being honest with myself I figured out long ago 1 pocket is where my true talent lies ( the tiny bit that I have anyway lol ). No, it's A GREAT GAME PERIOD. YOU can be a damp fine pool player, but if you can't consistently put packs together in 9 ball you really ain't shit and that's the truth. However, if you actually are a good pool player you can add your brain to the mix and become a damp fine one pocket player using both your stroke/ ball making A ND your intellect and play great one pocket AND ( AT least for me have much more fun doing it ). 1 hole is not for everyone though. You need the intellect, you must possess patience, banking skills, and every other skill involved with every other game of pool. Like I said, do not fret, you have just moved up to the next level!

PS - don't know if it matters to you and it can be regional but one pocket IS WHERE the good, big action is now a days for sure!

Running 50 pints at straight pool would be a good goal. I think Bill Werbeniuk has the record at snooker: http://www.drunkard.com/top-drunks-big-bill-werbeniuk/

Bob - I love the subtlety, 50 pints!! I get it. I've run a few pints in 14.1 but never 50. 50 POINTS by 50 years old was my 14.1 goal, made it but now you're saying its pints that matter?

I gotta get practicing - not sure I know enough drinking songs but Imma gonna try!
