state championship + 3frames of 8B warmup on youtube to critique

hiya all.

today was the final day of the individual Brabants 8-ball championship (national state championship).

this is the first time ive played since months and since ive got many help from my poolvideo on youtube alot of respected players replied on to help me. ive been training them at home , with a diningtable and my 30$ cue.

if u can see my signature. i never did better in a National B-ranking (only non top32 players can compete), and i never did better then 9th i think. ive never passed qualification rounds in any descent open, i never made it in the pricemoney, so im basically :) a B- player normally. not bad, not good :) but in the last 3 days i finaly had the chance to try what i had learned at home in a real poolgame.

well i finished 5th!! in a match with some good top32 players. wohoo, ive beaten some top players (im ranked in the low70's for the moment i think). and as my form was the same from monday true wensday , its not just a good day.

ive put on video my warmup session before todays final round and ill post them later tonight, or tomorow evening. it wasnt a match, so my focus was a bit off, but ull see on my game and the cleanings that my game went up :D

so kids: do your homework and your game will raise

pS2: in the 3d frame i really had to shoot some balls in the hard way , as i had litle angle, and had to force the 3 cussion returns. :) i assure you, i dont slam balls in that hard very often. (ok the 8 was for fun :p )

Solly,
That's great!:D

I just watched a couple of your videos and the improvent in form, especially the way you are bending down over the cue is a 300% improvement. You are really starting to look like a player.

It's good to see you take all the advice very seriously and work hard on it. If you keep this up you'll continue to get good advice and probably be capable of kicking all our butts before too long:p

It appears you have a very good eye, and your stroke looks fine.

A couple of tips:
You're still a little quick on some shots taking your stance by just bending over from where you happen to be, instead of walking into the shot from a position directly behind the line.

It's not like you have to slow down a lot. You're naturally a pretty quick player it seems. Just take that extra step to get behind the line of each shot before you commit to bending down for the shot. This habit will particularly help as you begin to demand more of your positional play as you'll need to visualize each shot to get a feel for the execution.

Also, you need to FOLLOW THROUGH on your break. You're losing a lot of power here. Your opponent had a pretty nice break. Watch the video and compare your follow through to his.

Again, great stuff, and thanks for putting up the video for all of us to see the results of your hard work.

Cheers,
Colin

colin, thx for the post. was secretly hoping for a comment :D

the least i could do , was to post the results, some all those who actually help players here, can see the work is not done for nothing. respect i call it :)

anyway, you are right. on the 1step aproach, ive done it in match, but never during the warmup, could be wrong, but in some kind of weird way, doing it during match, makes me play better. its like something i do when i step in second gear. its a movement i associate with MATCH focus. but if u tell me to do it all the time , i will :) (ps i didnt wanted to tape the matches, as im not sure my opponents would have like it. concentration problems etc.and me thinking of the camera could have made me play worse...). but i know im doing it during matchplay.

about the break. for now i dont get it, just by reading the words, but ill take a look at his break. (ps i asked him to teach me how to brake. i love his break. i dont care if he isnt potting 3 balls, it can be finetuned, but i love it.)

actually when i looked at it, it made me thing of old nights i spend looking BBC snooker matches when i was little. best way to describe it, is the snooker bending dow :) i saw some glances of it in the video. i think i understand what u are trying to say :D

StevenPwaldon: thx :D my pleasure

Solly,
I watched your opponents break again and even his follow through is too short in my opinion, though he does generate pretty good power.

And extra 20% is possible and that can help a lot when playing 8-ball. It will help in 9-ball too, as you can develop a lot of power at 80% effort without losing control.

Another thing I noticed on a couple of shots is that you elevate your back hand and bridge on some shots. I think you should try to get as low and flat as possible.

I agree it's probably not appropriate to tape your matches without the opponents permission. Even asking them may put some pressure on them. These videos are fine for letting us see your progress and make further suggestions.

Cheers,
Colin

btw: I'll try to get a video up of some breaking. Been fooling around with a new professional editing software (Premier Pro) so I'm not sure if I can make it work quickly.

yup , i watched your instructional first, and i agree what u said about jurgens break :) he too could still add some extra power without losing to much controle.

next step will be your break. i have no idea how long its going to take me to master it, but ill post new video's as soon as possible :D the least i can do , with you posting all this info for free. your a better internet coatch then i could get in real life. thx again m8!.

now dont teach me to much, or ill have to win that 6pack back i own you :D

on my break my chin is against my cue. so my arm is completly bend and hard to accelerate. my grip i have no idea what it is doing douring my break, and i stand up after ive shot. no timing it all. no folow true.... no wonder i have the badest break around.

looking forward to learn the powerbreak colin.
