State Of Mind?

sup guys. in my opinion once you reach a certain level in pool i think the game is all a state of mind.

My high run in 9-ball is a 4 racks and i have done that twice on a diamond pro cut 9 footer.
Just the other day im playing some guy a set for 300 and i have never lost to the guy but that day something wasnt right.

My confidence was nowhere to be found and i found myself making excuses such as he plays to dam slow. Anyways i end up losing the set .

I play the same guy tonight and i was in a care free mood bobbing my head to the music and feeling good. I win the set pretty easy and had fun.
As to where the other night i was doubting myself on easy shots and looking for a reason to lose.

So thats my theory. When ever i play im just gona tell myself im the best in the land and dont worry about the results.
I wonder if there's any way to fake confidence to your brain so it doesnt know the difference and will perform at its max abilities ??

The most pool-players are world-champions in *faking their abilities*

just a *bit kiddin*. You know that i am right :p
As long as you re not having very strong fundamentals you shouldn t think about any psychological things- just my humbe opinion- if you re doin this anyway the most players just having more excuses-nothin else:)

quite easy

It is quite easy to adjust your state of mind with a little practice and the difference in results can be amazing. Play a set with a negative mindset and all you remember is the three shots you really botched even if you manage to recover and you think you are playing lousy. Play the exact same set in a positive frame of mind and you are thinking about the great shots, great shape, and great safes you played and you are ready to go tackle a grizzly. Same exact play, depends on what you focus on.

One trick is to expect great play as the norm and dismiss bad play as the abnormal. Efren's little grin or laugh says, "that was stupid of me, wasn't it?" and he puts the shot behind him. He knows that was the unusual for him and he goes right back to his usual play.

Something I learned long ago, we can't lift ourselves by our own bootstraps physically but we can do it mentally or emotionally. We can destroy ourselves with a poor mental game or we can jump several balls and destroy opponents without a strong mental game of their own just by projecting a strong mental game. Tough to fade a guy jumping up with a grin when you just hooked him seven ways from Sunday!
