Stats On Jump Cues

I'd like to see stats on jump cues. Stats on how many times they sellout with them verses how many times they win a game with one. I'm thinking even the best players in the world will be on the wrong side of the stats. Johnnyt

Not sure how you'd keep stats on this one. But I think I know what you mean....

Watching top pros on a stream, many times, I've seen the one who jumps ends up losing that game.

I just can't say for sure that the losses outnumber the wins.

What you say may be true. However, that does not necessarily mean using the jump cue was a bad thing. When a Pro, or anyone for that matter, resorts to a jump cue, it means they had a tough shot regardless. Kicking may have sold out even more than using the jump cue did. At Pro level, one miss period is often enough to result in losing the game.

Well since a few pros like to share your mindset that jumping sucks, most low level pros do sell out whenever they do jump. However a lot of that has to do with them not being able to get the proper spin of the cue ball. SVB is the only one who can reliably jump, full cue or jump cue.

I agree with all the above but will add there are a lot of pros that go to their jump cues because they are poor kickers. Others try to make long low % shots with them instead of using them to play safe. But I'm not just talking about pros here. I'm talking regional players too. Johnnyt

I think it's often the right choice for a specific player, just depends on whether they are better at jumping or kicking. For people who are good kickers they are probably going to do better kicking but I know there are some people who are better at jumping than kicking and if that is the case then it's the right shot, under the circumstances.

Either way, as nobcitypool noted, they are resorting to a jump or kick because they're already in a bad spot so it's not like losing after playing either shot means it was the wrong choice...it just means they didn't have a better choice. They likely lost the game before they made the jump or kick by putting themselves in a position where they had to resort to such a shot.

The sellout ratio on kicks would be way higher. Why? Because, everyone knows how to kick, but not everyone is great at it. The question you should be asking is, what's the ratio of missed hits resulting in ball in hand for jump cues versus kicking? Sure, they might sell out with there jump shot, but I'd be willing to bet that the majority of them made legal contact and did not result in a foul.

Everyone wants to hate on the jump cues...
