Stephen Hendry Considers IPT

I think ...

that along with the IPT and more money, many types of
opportunities will come for players, and organizations alike.
Will we be worse off if it discontinues after 2-3 years, I don't
think so, but it certainly will be a catalyst for change in the
mean time. Changes that will probably still be around when
it isn't. The IPT is kind of like Bad Bad Leroy Brown, pissing
into the wind, ..... chewing on Superman's cape ....

.................

What happen to Quintenn Hann? doesnt he play pool too?
Or is he still banned from that bribery thing.

cheers,
Dave

That is a good question but I think a better question would be............Will the IPT consider Stephen Hendry as well as accept him?

Craig, do you ever play any snooker when you come to the States?

I assumed they would (if he had applied in time) considering they accepted Jimmy, Ronnie and Quinten. If for nothing else for the publicity he would bring, but I guess he would have to qualify along with everyone else next year now.

Not really, have too much to learn in pool and trying hard not to keep swapping cues, tables, ball weights etc. although its not easy in the UK.

Why?

I just thought maybe in your travels you might have played some while you was over here. It is a very good game. We always play with only 6 reds(pinks).
I know you like to play different games, but I understand you not wanting to play with different equipment. What size is your shafts on your playing cue? I always played with a 12.75 mm to play snooker with, I am not big on small shafts:eek: . Thanks for replying.

Funny you should ask, all my stuff just arrived off the boat from Australia recently so its the first time I've seen my old snooker cue since last December! It's only about 9mm which seems like playing with a knitting needle after changing to a z shaft earlier this year. Its a gold medal barracuda, 19oz. Snooker is a great game but I tend to go in phases now, I do go off it when Ive been playing a lot of pool. I played on that "tight" table Ive mentioned a few times in my home town the other night and was shocked to see how playing pool so much had affected my game. I rarely play with 6 reds, prob because I mainly play to try and get big breaks, why do u play with 6 reds?

Because you get paid faster! ;) I grew up playing on a TIGHt 5x10 Brunswick. The BEST players from overseas or Canada would be PULLING their hair out playing on this table. Did I mention it was TIGHT?

In Columbus Ga. they play with 6 reds and only the 7 ball. I never did like that game

hopefully it'll be good for pool. with snooker stars moving towards pool - maybe that'll draw some sponsors too and lead to overseas expansion

Yes, I can see it now...................THE 2009 KING OF MT. EVEREST ;)

I think Stephen Hendry would make a lethal pool player if he would put some effort in the game. Imagine Stephen learning to play straight pool and... gulp.

I hate to disappoint everybody, but I truly do not believe that Stephen Hendry (or even Ronnie O'Sullivan, for that matter) will last on the IPT. Here's a guy who is used to making in excess of $1 million in tournament earnings per year from snooker. He will have to win every single IPT event to do so in pool. And that ain't happening. It takes a lot to learn American pool to the extent that you can compete alongside Efren and the other giants, no matter how good your stroke is (his is probably the best I have ever seen of anybody who has ever wielded a cue--apologies to Earl and Efren and everybody else). It is a totally different game. Also, Hendry, O'Sullivan and White will not be treated with the same kind of respect they are used to on the snooker circuit. Not to mention the culture shock... ask me, I've been through it. A seven-time world champion starting at the bottom? I don't think so--as much as I'd like to see it...

I think O'Sullivan's stroke is FAR more suited to pool then Hendry's. Hendry still pokes the ball more like a tight conservative snooker player, Ronnie on the other hand strokes snooker shots like they ARE pool.

I must agree with that, even though I am a bigger Hendry fan. O'Sullivan is also a lot more flamboyant, which will help him adapt to pool. I'd love to watch him play Earl...
