According to longtime friend Sherm Adamson, former One-Pocket Champion Steve "Cookie Monster" Cook passed away in his sleep last night. I am pleased to to have had Steve as a friend and spent many good times with him. He lived only a few blocks away from me for over a decade and was the first 'player' that I ran into when I moved to Tampa 17 years ago.
R.I.P. Steve... your friend Tampa Tubby-Bob (aka Doug)

May the Gentle Giant Forever Rest in Peace. i had the honest pleasure of meeting him a couple of times. Hell of a nice guy..mike

Wow, I can't believe it! I was going to ask if anyone knew how Steve was doing. This post blew my mind! He was a true gentleman, and one of the best 1 holers around. I assume he was back in Ohio. The sport will miss him.

I understand that Steve played in the Airway Billiard Monday night tournament and then went home to bed (he had fallen asleep during one of his matches). At 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, his dad went to wake him up and found him dead. Steve was 56. I wonder if anyone has contacted contacted longtime friend and former roommate Gene "The Mighty Glove" Catron ? (I sent him an e-mail,but it bounced and I called, but noone answered). Friends in Tampa have been notified...

Steve Cook

very sorry to here that Mr. Cook has passed away. had the opportunity to spend a little time with steve some years ago, i was trying to buy Bakers Billiards in tampa from Gerry Titcomb and her husband. steve was working for them and i asked if he would continue to work with me if i bought the place, we talked for a few days about changes in the place, he agreed to continue with me. nice man. {Much more important than a good player.} rest in piece steve. I got a call from Grady today telling me about this. I am working on comments from some of the old time pros that knew Steve well.

Mike
