Does anyone here think that Steve Davis could win the World Pool Championship if he put all of his effort into it? I know that he only plays three tournaments a year, World Championships, World Pool League and World Pool Master, and he just focuses on snooker for most of the year. But even though pool isn't his major priority he does very well. I seem to remember that he made to the finals of World Pool League one year.

Maybe in his prime some 20 years ago. But today? No way. O'Sullivan played only one official tournament in Weert and reached a final losing to Immonen. I think he'll be the one to watch as in my opinion he has a natural game that is suitable for 9ball, unlike Davis. Not to knock on Davis, but to me he just seems a bit too machanical. Yes, he runs out just like the rest of them pool pros, but somehow he just isn't agressive enough to be a true 9baller.

In his prime, why not? But now, no way.

I couldn't even imagine him being a major factor in one of these IPT qualifiers.

Its well known that Steve only plays proffessional Snooker or Pool for fun these days. He admits to rarely practicing anymore. The fact that he 48, rarely practices and is provisionally ranked #6 in the world in snooker is incredibe. There are pros that will practice every day for 4-5 hrs for their entire career and maybe reach #20 at best. On top of that he was the runner up in the UK Championship.

I think that if he dedicated himself he would be a force to reckon with in the world of pool. You can't say he isn't a natural talent just because he is methodical and slower. You don't win 6 world titles and dominate a sport for 10 years without a whole lot of natural talent.

Granted he was a great player and he is able to beat anybody in a set but like most snooker players his break just plain sucks. It would seem to me it would be very difficult to win a World Championship without mastering the most important shot in 9 ball. Everybody talks about how Reyes break is substandard but in actuality it isn't that bad. It isn't the best but it isn't as bad as everyone thinks. I have been watching Steve Davis play pool for I believe 12 years now, since I live in Europe, and his break is still the same as it was back when they had the first European Pool Masters, which was won by Werner Durregger against Ralph Souquet in the final. Just my .02

no-sho who has no idea!
