Stiff Hit

Schuler makes a variety of shafts. Check out their web site. They go from stiff to stiffer.

I think in a production cue Schon is fairly stiff.

Yes, Schon is very stiff which is why I like it. It gives better feel and truer feedback in my opinion.

Mezz sure hit stiff

i would opt for southwest and mezz cues with their hybrid-pro shafts

I've been using Mezz for about 1 year now and it is stiff. I like it this way.

I personally think Mottey's and White's hit soft. Hence they reason why you like the stiffer hitting cue more.

is it necessarily the taper of the shaft that makes the hit stiff or the materials used, or maybe a combination of the two?

And BTW, anytime I listen to theories on what makes a good break cue, I just have to laugh to myself because no one out their has a cue like the Fast One.

Good for him. Man he is the greatest at everything, idn't he?

My new Tim Scruggs cue provides quite stiff but still lively hit. Very good craftmanship and probably the best hitting cue I've ever tried.

How do I contact the builder of this cue? I may be interested in purchasing one.

This is my Sugar Tree... Its one of the hardest hitting cues I've ever played with. Let me rephrase that it is the hardest hitting cue Ive played with. The cue hits a ton. There is alot that makes a stiff hitting cue. Any given cuemaker can make a cue thats stiff or soft hitting. Materials, taper and over all construction is ultimately the deciding factor in a stiff or soft hitting cue. Most likely no one has heard of Sugar Tree but you will eventually... Ive played with a ton of cues and this one is my favorite... Everyone has to start somewhere. I had the cue for nearly a month and never knew the guys name :D He makes good hitting cues to make good hitting cues, not for the popularity. I think this is a sure sign of a cuemaker that is dedicated to delivering a quality product.

Can anyone recommend some cuemakers who make or who are known for making cues with a stiff hit. Thanks.

For custom cues makers, in my opinion, heres my list of cue makers that make a stiff hitting cue:
Mike Bender
SouthWest
Omega/Dpk
Andy Gilbert
Coker
Szamboti
Josey

Thats my personal list as I have personally played with these cues before. I cant comment on cues that Ive never played before..

Stiffy

I would have to say Jacoby custom cues there the stiffiest cue i have ever played with... if ya like real stiff give them a try they start out pretty cheap and can make ya any thing.

Having a stiff hit is one thing, but you should find a cue that's both stiff and allow you to put spin on the cue ball easily. Someone mentioned Dale Perry earlier. DPs are stiff, stiffer than most cues you'll find. But the cue ball action is not very good. Josey's stiff and decently lively. I play with a Coker and its stiff and lively.

Predator and schon are pretty stiff. Also, stiffness will vary depending on shaft thickness and taper...so if you get one of these cues that people are recommending and have the shaft turned down to 12.75mm or whatever, don't expect it to play the same as a 13.25mm.
