Stiffness Of Cue by listed Cuemakers

Since we have a thread from 2011 I'll comment.

The stiffest cue I've owned was one masonh cue that was maple and cocobolo, one of his second set of cues. I owned a bunch of them, and that one was 57" and had a really stiff taper.

I've had 2 or 3 sugartree's, and they hit very well, but not as stiff of a taper.

Currently have a really stiff hitting sneaky with the second shaft. It has a stiff tapered shaft. With the other shaft it is nearly as stiff.

I think hit is subjective enough to be hard to make a list. The cue with the stiffest hit I've played with was a old kersenbrock or perhaps a southwest.

arknova...Are you trying to say that Dan Janes doesn't make ANY custom cues?

The "hit" of a cue...any cue...is subjective to the individual, and as such cannot be 'catagorized' or loosely defined. As mentioned, the "feel" of a hit varies with shafts, joints, and tips. Two different people, owning the exact same cue, with the same specs, will frequently have opposite opinions of how the cue plays.

Well as far as that goes you should include David Schmelke also. If not, why not ???

I have a Bender that I believe is very stiff and hard feeling. My Lambros that I play with is outstanding - fairily stiff but very soft and solid feel. Also have a Pechaeur that is solid and probably about a 4 of 10 on stiffness. Softer than Lambros by two notches.

I do think there is a huge difference between soft and hard (feel) and stiffness (feel but also measurable).
